3M is seeking a Systems Control Technician for the Plant Engineering Division located in Maplewood, MN. Ready to be part of what's next?

Position Summary:

Incumbent is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating, and making adjustments to electrical, electronic, and pneumatic process control systems and devices used in production, laboratory, office, and utility areas.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Knows and applies the operating principles, purpose, proper application and design limitations of primary sensing elements, control circuitry, and final control devices used in closed loop and open loop industrial process control systems. This includes electronic, digital, analog, pneumatic, and mechanical methods of signal generating, conditioning, transmitting, and recording

- Reads and works to the indicated accuracy, specifications, and tolerances as detailed on engineering drawings, machine assembly prints, machine construction prints, blueprints, sketches, equipment manuals, and vendor diagrams

- Sets up, operates, and reads precision testing and measuring instruments to the instrument manufacturer's specification and accuracy. Precision testing and measuring instruments include devices such as: ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, dead weight testers, potentiometers, thermometers, velometers, scales, tachometers, strobe lights, hygrometers, gagers, and recorders

- Performs mathematical calculations including trigonometry to determine electrical and electronic circuit characteristics and requirements

- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments based on that diagnosis using repair parts, or by correcting existing parts or by innovation to select substitute parts

- Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, calibrates, and makes standard adjustments to complete systems, system components, and circuits used in the measurement and control of current, voltage, temperature, humidity, speed, vacuum, pressure, level , weight, velocity, tension, flow, time, frequency, thickness, and density

- Troubleshoots, repairs, and makes standard adjustments to direct current and alternating current motor drive systems that range in size from fractional horsepower to hundreds of horsepower

- Troubleshoots, repairs, and makes standard adjustments to closed circuit television systems and two-way radio communication equipment

- Determines and uses standard metal joining techniques such as silver soldering, brazing, and soldering

- Sets up and operates shop equipment such as hand tools, wrenches, air and electric powered portable hand tools and machine tools and a wide variety of electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic precision testing and measuring instruments

- Provides and maintains the minimum required quality and quantity of personal hand tools for use on the job as listed by management

- Completes required shop paperwork and uses reporting system following established procedures. This includes Daily Work Records, P.M. Route Sheets, Stock Withdrawal Forms, and other forms and records that may be required in the performance of the job or operation of the department

- Submits work method improvement suggestions, craft training suggestions and other cost recommendations to shop supervisor

- Knows, applies, and can evaluate the operating principles and design limitations of electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic components and devices used in process control systems and associated instrumentation

Basic Qualifications:

- Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher

- Minimum of five (5) years industrial electrical or electronics experience OR possess an Associates' degree (or higher) in an electrical or electronics discipline OR successful completion of a military PMEL program

Preferred Qualifications:

- Minimum five (5) years industrial electrical or electronics experience AND possess an Associates' degree (or higher) in an electrical or electronics discipline AND successful complete of a military PMEL program

- Minimum three (3) years of System Control experience

- Experience diagnosing and repairing the following types of equipment in a manufacturing environment: Electrical Power Supply, Machine Control Devices, Pneumatics, and Hydraulics

- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Interfaces (HMIs), Analog and digital AC/DC drive systems, Pneumatic/hydraulic systems, Calibration/Metrology, and the National Electric Code

- Direct experience within a manufacturing setting with any of the following: Laser capabilities, Web handling, Tension control, and Precision motion and robotics

- Advanced computer knowledge

- Self-motivate, team oriented, and excellent interpersonal skills

- Understand and follow both oral and written instructions
