KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Receives, reads and interprets prescriptions and doctors orders B. Checks for overdoses, legal correctness, incompatibilities, allergies, etc C. Prepares sterile and non-sterile medications D. Labels medication E. Delivers medication F. Fills or supervises non-pharmacy personnel in filling unit and clinic orders for floor stock G. Fills orders for controlled substances and assures necessary accountability and security. H. Answers questions and provides information concerning such subjects as drug incompatibility, drug availability, adverse reactions and contraindications I. Supervises non-pharmacist personnel in inventorying, ordering and checking-in supplies and drugs. Pharmacist inventories, checks-in all controlled substances. J. Supervises non-pharmacist personnel making patient charges while assuring correctness of charge K. Supervises non-pharmacist personnel in compounding pharmacy products as permitted by law including but not limi ted to chemotherapy agents. L. Checks automatic dispensing cabinet order M. Supervises non-pharmacist personnel checking all hospital units and clinics where there is storage of drugs, to include emergency carts N. Prepare patient profiles to include drugs given to patients O. Supervise all non-pharmacist personnel, scheduling and checking their work P. Performs clinical and regulatory responsibilities including but not limited to creatinine clearance report, Pyxis override report, monitoring selected drugs with narrow therapeutic range, narcotic inventory and and provider initiated clinical consults. Q. Counsels patients receiving outpatient prescriptions including but not limited to relabeled medications for home use, indigent medication program. R. Staff chemotherapy compounding as needed. S. Reviews chemotherapy orders, checks for correct medication, protocol, dosing weight, renal function, ANC and others as needed. T. Other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Pharm.D. (Doctor of Pharmacy) from an accredited pharmacy program. Licensure, Certification & Registration Must hold a current license as a pharmacist in the state of Texas. Must be IV certified within 6 months of hire.
