Job Summary Provide service and care to patients and families. Independently perform specialized physiologic and manometric testing and data analysis for both clinical and research patients.
Responsibilities*
Patient Care
Performs physiologic and manometric testing with patients.
Provides physical and emotional support for patients and families undergoing these procedures.
Prompt response to patient needs and changes in condition. Informs MD/RN/Clinical Management of patient care requirements not within the Tech role. Promptly communicates changes in patient's condition to appropriate level of staff.
Independently, safely, and successfully performs gastrointestinal intubation.
Obtains brief clinical patient history prior to procedures.
By protocol, administers procedure-specific topical medications.
Performs gastrointestinal intubation, venipuncture, and IV insertion.
Laboratory
Performs diagnostic tests proficiently and independently, according to defined Lab procedures/protocols.
Provides accurate and complete documentation and data analysis.
Maintains positive and effective communication with coworkers.
Consistently adheres to established infection control procedures and policies.
Keeps the patient and Lab work environments free from clutter. Stocks areas with supplies according to plans for each area.
Maintains computer and equipment proficiency adequate to consistently and successfully provide effective service.
Successfully sets up, calibrates, operates, and trouble shoots laboratory equipment.
Manages solutions, reagents, and media. Weighs, compounds, and titrates materials.
Operates centrifuge.
Professional development -- attends in-services, staff meetings, interdepartmental meetings, and required staff development programs.
Participates in research activities of Lab.
Required Qualifications*
BS degree in health or biological sciences.
Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Evidence of independent analytical thinking skills.
Evidence of computer literacy/proficiency.
Ability to successfully multi-task.
Ability to consistently work positively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Patient care experience.
Desired Qualifications*
College level physiology coursework.
Clinical laboratory experience.
Intubation experience.
Proficiency with venipuncture including starting IV's.
Coursework or experience with statistics.
