BON SECOURS HOME CARE LLCPOSITION SUMMARY Assists in the care of hospice patients by providing a variety of non-skilled health and personal care services, as assigned by the supervising nurse. Work is performed independently where procedures have been established and directions have been given by RN for patient care, but independent judgment must be exercised based on the conditions present at the time of the patient visit.JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Work requires a high school level of knowledge of reading, writing and simple arithmetic. Requires the ability to understand, carry out and communicate detailed instructions and procedures and to accurately complete various forms and records.2. Individuals providing hospice aide services to hospice patients shall be qualified by one of the following means to meet licensure requirements in the state of Virginia: a) Hold a certificate of completion from an approved nurse aide training program and be registered by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a Certified Nurse Aide. b) Hold a certificate of completion from a professional nursing, practical nursing or nurse aide training program approved by the Virginia Community College System or the Virginia Department of Health Professions. c) Hold a certificate of completion from a home health aide training program approved by the Department of Health prior to July 1, 1984.3. In order to meet Hospice Medicare Certification Regulations, the individual must: a) Meet the competency evaluation requirements as specified in the Conditions of Participation for Hospice Aide Services (HDFA 42 CFR Part 418.76B). b) Competency testing includes all of the following areas: 1) Communication skills 2) Observation, reporting and documentation of client status and the care of service provided. 3) Reading and recording temperature, pulse and respiration. 4) Basic infection control procedures. 5) Basic elements of body functioning and changes in body function that must be reported to an aide's supervisor. 6) Maintenance of a clean, safe and healthy environment. 7) Recognizing emergencies and knowledge of emergency procedures. 8) The physical, emotional and developmental needs of, and ways to work with, the populations served by the agency, including the need for respect for the patient, his or her privacy and his or her property. 9) Appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming that include bed bath, tub or shower bath, shampoo in sink, tub or bed, nail and skin care, oral hygiene, toileting and elimination. 10) Safe transfer techniques and ambulation. 11) Normal range of motion and positioning. 12) Adequate nutrition and fluid intake. 13) Any other task that the agency may choose to have the hospice aide performs.
