Lead VMware Engineer (91967) - Full-time

The Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer IV role will help in the development, maintenance and administration of an enterprise class virtualized compute platform. This is a fast paced role that requires both the ability and desire to work in an evolving environment as part of a dynamic team. The Infrastructure Engineer should also have a solid working experience of the latest virtualization technologies and industry trends to develop virtualization strategies and roadmap.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the planning, design, and implementation of various VMware solutions and other virtualization technologies that support a fast growing virtualization environment. This role will also have operational responsibilities for virtualized systems including troubleshooting, patching/upgrading and maintenance of complex hardware and software systems.

Key Responsibilities:

In this critical role, the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of accomplishments in the following areas:

• Facilitate POCs and R&D to identify strategic technical direction tied to virtualization technologies. Work in collaboration with Infrastructure engineers, Enterprise Architecture and Infrastructure Solution Engineering Team to identifying right technical solutions and/or products that will meet the business needs while improving operational efficiency, stability, quality and timelines.
• Review business requirements of projects, especially non-functional requirements and translate those requirements to an infrastructure topology with detailed sizing/capacity plans and hardware/software configurations.

• Perform infrastructure administration maintenance tasks and analyzes processes for improvement.
• Increase operational efficiency and consistency through automation of repeatable tasks
• Analyzes, tests and implements changes and enhancements to infrastructure software and hardware technologies.
• Design, build and support server hardware built on HP Blade Architecture and Virtual Connect solutions.
• Provides support for complex infrastructure and systems engineering/implementation activities including off-shift support.
• Recommends best method for server technology changes, disaster recovery technologies and project related hardware and software configurations.
• Create necessary technical documentation and procedures as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Management Team.

Knowledge/Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in IT services
• Minimum 5 years of VMWare experience supporting large enterprise environments
• Current VMware Certifications
• Advanced knowledge of VMware vCenter and vSphere ESXi 4.x and above
• Solid understanding of virtualization capacity planning, sizing and optimization is required
• Experience in vRealize Automation suite (vRealize Automation, vRealize Operations Manager, Log Insight and ITBM)
• Experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager and/or other automated DR solutions
• Experience with HP server hardware and blade systems (HP C7000 with Virtual Connect and traditional switching infrastructure)
• Experience with VDI solutions such as Citrix XenDesktop and VMware Horizon View is highly desirable
• Knowledge of networking concepts TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Routing, VLANs, firewalls and F5 load balancer.
• Solid knowledge of all versions of Windows operating systems. Linux/Unix knowledge is desirable
• Knowledge of different storage protocols, (SAN, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS)
• Experience with enterprise storage platforms such as EMC VNX, VMAX, XtremIO. Virtual storage such as vSAN is desirable.
• Experience with scripting tools such as Powercli and Python to automate repeatable tasks
• Knowledge of VMware image level backup solutions
• Experience with OpenStack is desirable
• Experience with public cloud is desirable
• Experience with provisioning/orchestration tools is desirable
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, presentation
• Excellent consulting and influencing skills
• Ability to manage and adjust multiple priorities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team to learn quickly to solve complex problems in high pressured situations
