The Assistant Category Manager works with their category team to manage and grow the assigned low to medium volume category(ies). This includes assisting in the selection, forecasting, inventory management, pricing, revenue, margin vendor relationships, and promotions of assigned category(ies).

Requirements

  • Actively manage assigned low to medium volume categories to achieve annual financial goals including sales objectives, retail and wholesale gross margin, wholesale income, shrink, known loss, inventory turns and service level, making strategic and tactical adjustments as necessary. Assist in the development of category plans of LOB Annual Operating Plan (budget). Assist with the development of the overall LOP AOP.
  • Supervise team consisting of Merchandising Specialist and Assistants by setting clear objectives, ensuring the preparation of Development Action Plans, providing ongoing feedback and coaching to prepare staff for potential promotional opportunities.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with vendors, stores, logistics, distribution, marketing, wholesale and retail accounting and space management to drive profitability from all angles.
  • Work with the category, marketing and vendor teams on planning and execution of category strategy, product assortment, ad plans, displays, pricing and promotion strategy to meet the Company's margin and revenue goals.
  • Manage and approve processing of vendor cost changes to maximize profitability.
  • Lead Own Brand category projects aimed at profitably increasing Own Brand sales and penetration including efforts to reduce cost on existing programs, development and introduction of new items and ongoing monitoring.
  • Act as the central merchandising and buying interface for all formats (Supermarket, Market District, Get Go, GEX/MDX and Good Cents), working cooperatively with the merchandising counterparts for each banner.
  • Monitor trends in new products, consumer behavior, share, competition, fixturing and store layouts to make informed decisions and initiate innovation.
  • Implement seasonal ad planning: developing supporting information (PDP/seasonal planning).
  • Conduct meetings and visit stores to share new/existing merchandising tools available to enhance our store' consumer image/profitability and to ensure continuity and consistency across the Company.
  • Work cooperatively with all category teams to: sharing best practices and identifying opportunities for improvement. Lead any GEBS and/or supply chain improvement efforts related to assigned categories
  • Respond to and/or provide direction resolve daily internal and external inquiries/issues.
  • Comply with all federal, state, local laws as they pertain to merchandising.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for budget development, expense control and/or revenue generation for a department. Amount of Budgetary Responsibility: $3mm - $5mm
