About this job

The incumbent, under supervision, will conduct and support field work for the California Recreational Fisheries Survey (CRFS). Field duties include interviewing recreational anglers at beaches, on piers, at launch ramps, as well as out at sea onboard commercial passenger fishing vessels (CPFV's). Work occurs primarily during daylight hours according to a monthly sampling schedule that includes work on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Catch is identified to the species level and biological data such as lengths and weights are obtained. Additional responsibilities include assisting the lead in supporting and training seasonal field staff, recording and reviewing CRFS field data, using basic computer applications to enter data into electronic databases and compile reports, and conducting public outreach. Other duties are as required. Desirable skills and knowledge: willingness to work weekends and holidays, willingness to work in all weather conditions, ability to work at sea, ability to work independently, desire to interact with the public, knowledge of marine ecology and/or fisheries, ability to lift 40 pounds, knowledge of computer applications such as Word and Excel, ability to perform detail oriented work and accurately complete complex data sheets. NO STATE HOUSING IS AVAILABLE.
