Overview

Utilizing the Nursing Process assesses, implements and evaluates individualized nursing care in accordance with medical orders, unit procedures and other disciplines.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Demonstrates a competent level of the nursing process involving assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

1.1. Nursing assessment initiated and completed within time frame specified by unit procedure and relevant to patients' condition.

1.1.1. Medical/Surgical - 8 hours post admission

1.1.2. Pediatric Medical/Surgical - 4 hours post admission

1.2. Identifies and individualizes the plan of care and expected outcomes with patient and/or significant others and other disciplines on admission and updates as needed.

1.3. Interventions identified in the plan of care are implemented on a continuous basis.

1.4. updates leveled interventions as patient condition changes.

1.5. Evaluates and documents patients progress or lack of progress toward attainment of expected outcomes at least once per shift.

1.6. Documentation is completed in a timely manner.

Demonstrates safety, infection control, risk management and cost effectiveness in the planning and delivery of care.

2.1. Delivers safe and effective care according to policies and procedures. Report to oncoming shift reflects patient status, is clear and concise.

2.2. Practices Standard Precautions and proper disposal of infectious wastes.

2.3. Incident Reports and Areas of Concern are completed by end of shift being worked.

2.4. Cognizant of cost related to patient care. Practices good judgement to prevent wasting or excess use of supplies. Organizes and prioritizes assignments to complete them with minimal or no required overtime.

2.5. Assures appropriate and safe use of restraints, follows established procedures.

2.6. Participates in narcotic count, crash cart checks and performance of controls for glucometer.

Evaluates his/her nursing performance relating to accepted professional standards of practice.

3.1. Attends or views 100% of mandatory meetings.

3.2. 50% of continuing education is pertinent to area of clinical practice.

3.3. Remains updated on health center and unit activities by attending 64% (8 of 12) of unit meetings and reading minutes of those not attended.

3.4. Current CPR.

Demonstrates effective team leading skills.

4.1. Manages time effectively.

4.2. Delegates tasks effectively providing motivation and guidance to team members. (WC, PCT, CNA)

4.3. Communicates and positively resolves conflict among team members.

4.4. Utilizes critical thinking in daily activities.

Performs miscellaneous job functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from accredited school of nursing with current registration and license to practice in Kansas.

Licensure: Current registration and license to practice in Kansas.

Experience: Effective communication skills are required. Computer/keyboard knowledge is preferred.

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association is required. Co-workers must either submit a copy of a card showing current credentialing to Human Resources upon hire or must complete the training within 90 days.

Other: Telemetry training within 1 year of hire. Push/pull up to 45lbs. Grip up to 30lbs. Coordination of hands for various activities. Pinch up to 15lbs.
