3M is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for the Electrical Markets Division in Haverhill, MA. Ready to be part of what's next?

Job Summary :

The person hired for the position of Maintenance Mechanic will install, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and make adjustments to mechanical equipment and devices used in production, laboratory, and office areas.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Know and apply the operating principles, purpose, proper application and design limitations of machine tools, machine assemblies and mechanical devices; know the characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials used in the fabrication, rebuilding and repair of machines and mechanical devices

- Read and work to the indicated accuracy, specifications and tolerances as detailed on engineering drawings, machine assembly prints, machine construction prints, blue prints, sketches, equipment manuals and vendor diagrams. Work both with US customary and SI (metric) systems of measurement

- Fit fabricated parts and do custom assembly work such as bearing and roll assembly, machine alignment and leveling, motor and gear reducer mounting and alignment, adjust and set clearances on clutches, gears, coating bars, rolls and similar devices using machine tools, hand tools and precision measurement tools

- Setup, operate and read precision testing and measuring instruments to the instrument manufacturer's specification of accuracy. Precision testing and measuring instruments include devices such as calipers, dial indicators, levels, micrometers, profilometers, rules, scales, sine bars, squares, vernier calipers, ring gages, hole gages and thread gages

- Perform mathematical calculations to determine dimensions, locations, angles, sizes, shapes, speeds and feeds

- Work from both written and verbal instructions

- Use powered and non-powered hand tools such as broaches, dies, drifts, drill motors, files, grinders, hammers, punches, reamers, saws, scrapers, scribers, torque wrenches and similar hand tools

- Use machine tool accessories such as angle plates, arbors, boring heads, centers, chucks, clamps, digital readouts, dividing heads, hold-downs, parallels, rotary tables, steady rests, tail stocks, V-blocks, vises and similar machine tool accessories

- Select, sharpen, form or make and use cutting tools such as carbide inserts, counter borers, countersinks, drills, end mills, form cutters, grinding wheels, keyway cutters, reamers, shell mills, end mills, taps, tool bits and similar cutting tools

- Setup and operate a wide variety of type, model and size machine tools such as boring bars, drills, grinders, jig bores, key seaters, lathes, milling machines, NC machines, presses, saws and similar machine tools

- Fabricate parts using a wide variety of metallic and non-metallic materials

- Disassemble, assemble, align and level machines and equipment to the required tolerances and specifications

- Mount, adjust, set clearance, align, tram, fit and lubricate mechanical devices such as clutches, brakes, bearings, gear drives, linkages, rolls and shafts to operate to the required tolerances and specifications

- Understand lockout/tagout procedures

- Detect and report any unusual operating conditions to appropriate supervisor

- Required Personal Protective Equipment must be worn at all times

- Correct any unsafe conditions or acts by advising the supervisor and coworkers

- Perform related duties as requested by the supervisor

This position will require:

- Working a fixed night shift (Monday-Thursday, 9:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.)

- Working overtime

This position may require:

- Working on holidays as needed

- Weekend work

Basic Qualifications:

- Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher

- Minimum two (2) years of maintenance experience OR a two-year technical degree in a maintenance field

Preferred Qualifications:

- Non-woven experience in a manufacturing environment

- Two (2) years of maintenance experience and a two-year technical degree in a maintenance field

Location: Haverhill, MA
