Duties and Responsibilities:

Under supervision of the Chief of Plant Operations, the incumbent will do gardening and general grounds maintenance work, and do other related work. Plant, cultivate, water and spray ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees and flowers, and propagates cuttings, plant and care for lawns, hoe weeds, and perform general grounds maintenance work, prepare and treat soil for planting and spade and fertilize flower beds and set out plants, supervise the work of resident helpers, keep greenhouses and other buildings in repair free from diseases and pests, keep grounds clean and orderly, maintain hoses, tools, supplies, and equipment in proper condition and repair, trim trees, hedges, and shrubs and erect tree supports, compost green waste, do general laboring tasks related to grounds and garden maintenance work.

Perform routine general maintenance and scheduled preventive maintenance on lawns, sprinklers, flowerbeds, walks and roadways.

Assist other groundskeepers in the maintenance and care of facility grounds and related general laboring tasks related to grounds and garden maintenance work.

Perform routine day-to-day housekeeping tasks required maintaining a safe and clean work area.

Prepare reports, order supplies and repair parts, assist in other areas, attend in-service training, on-the job and other related training.

Promote and enforce safety rules and regulations, including tool control. Ensure all federal, state and institution laws, rules, policies and regulations regarding sexual harassment are adhered to. Maintain safety consciousness and awareness with special attention to factors such as: phone numbers to dial in emergency situations, alternate measures of summoning aid when phone is not available, location of the nearest fire extinguisher at locations where you spend most of your day, the need to correct or report any safety hazards that you observe, use common sense in resolving safety problems.
