About this job

Test Administrator of a School-Based Research Study

POSITION SUMMARY:
RTI International is seeking part time employees with previous classroom or school experience to administer a school-based assessment for the Middle Grades Longitudinal Study of 2017 (MGLS:2017). Test Administrators (TAs) will be responsible for administering in-school assessments of students in middle school. This position is part time, offering about 5-25 hours/week. Some overnight travel may be necessary depending on the location of the schools. The position is scheduled to begin with training in January 2016. The project is scheduled to continue through May 2016. We are looking for individuals able to work during the school day, specifically early morning hours through mid-afternoon. If the school is a significant drive from the TA’s home, he/she should be prepared to leave even several hours early to arrive at the school on time. Qualified candidates should be available to work through the duration of the project. Additional work may be available as part of future phases of the study.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be available for at least 5 - 25 hours per week to administer in-school assessments during the data collection period.
  • Must be able and willing to work primarily early mornings through mid-afternoon on weekdays.
  • Need to be available for a variable work schedule, as dictated by school assignments, including overnight travel to conduct test administration in out-of-area schools.
  • Identify and train a TA assistant to help with data collection (assistants are paid, and may be family members, friends, etc.).
  • Adhere to a schedule dictated by supervisor and the school that ensures test sessions are conducted in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct valid, high quality in-person administrations in compliance with all project protocols covered at training and documented in the project manual.
  • Must be able to read text verbatim from paper documents.
  • Report progress and problems to your supervisor during weekly conference calls and/or as needed.
  • Assume full responsibility for use and care of the computers, taking reasonable and appropriate steps to safeguard against damage, loss, or theft, and returning the laptop at the conclusion of the MGLS:2017 assignment or at a supervisor’s request.
  • Keep all project information confidential and maintain data security.
  • Ability to complete all required activities in a professional manner, while maintaining the integrity of all information acquired.
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with your supervisor, other project staff and school staff, objectively sharing your thoughts while displaying an understanding of project management’s concerns.
  • Be receptive—not defensive—when given feedback from project personnel about your performance, striving to learn and improve.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • One year of experience directly or indirectly related to teaching, working with children in schools, working with children with disabilities, or field interviewing is preferred.
  • Personal automobile available for business use, as required (even if you live in a city with good public transit, you may be required to travel to schools with project equipment in the suburbs and therefore must have your own transportation).
  • A valid drivers’ license and automobile insurance as required by your state.
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience using computers and competent with common current internet and computer applications.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds, and to convey a 50 pound rolling case in the field.
  • Have regular access to an in-home internet connection for data transmissions.
  • Available for work 5-25 hours per week, as determined by project management, on the project January 4, 2016 through May 31, 2016.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the first date of employment.
  • Availability for overnight travel either by personal automobile or air travel as specifically required for project trainings and other activities.
  • TAs must pass a federal security clearance check. This includes extensive background checks, fingerprinting and signing a confidentiality agreement and affidavit of nondisclosure. TAs also may be required to undergo additional security clearance required by some schools and/or districts.
