Server -- Nutritional Services - Orlando

Florida Hospital seeks to hire a Server who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Department Profile

The patient meal service area makes room service available to patients on the Orlando campus and traditional menu service to patients at LTAC, Apopka and Psych Med East. Over 1 million patient trays are produced and delivered annually.

Work Hours/Shift :

2 - 3, 12 hour days per week, 7:00am - 7:30pm

Job Summary

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Server position is responsible for obtaining patient meal menus using a computer or 'Toughbook' at the bedside; delivering meals to patients and guests with a cheerful and excellent service attitude, and following the approved scripting and method of service after confirming the patient's identity. The Server is also responsible for picking up trays from patient rooms, and assisting where necessary in the Room Service operation. This position is responsible to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary working environment. This position functions as part of a team that ensures delivery of food to patients within an established timeframe following the order being placed.

This position is responsible for performing assigned side work and relieving Room Service Facilitators (Starter & Expeditor) on their breaks; and stocks and maintains the PAR levels for the unit refrigerators with snack/food items as required to meet patient needs during the hours Room Service is not available. They also maintain the Temperature Logs for the refrigerators in the various areas. The Server is the key personal contact person between Nutritional Services and the patient and serves as an ambassador for all Nutritional Services and as such, needs to maintain a friendly, cheerful, and helpful demeanor at all times.

Skills, Education & Experience Required :

Read, write, and speak English; handwriting must be legible

Creative, innovative, and receptive to change

Basic computer skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications-Word and Excel

Capable of learning how to use and implement nutritional software

Ability to learn diet order guidelines and communicate information to patients

Bi-lingual-English required/Spanish (preferred)

High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)

2 year customer service experience (preferred)

Job Responsibilities :

Scripting

Follows approved scripting per Room Service Training Manual during menu ordering, tray delivery, retrieval, and service recovery process.

Job Knowledge

Demonstrates competency in using computer for 'announced' menu process and nourishment stocking. Consistently obtains 2 patient identifiers; follows HIPAA regulations; demonstrates knowledge and competency with CBORD system (electronic diet office system), age specific considerations, patient diets, allergies, and FH/NS P&Ps. Attends all required meetings and in-services.

Safety & Sanitation

Ensures that work area/station, storeroom, and freezer/walk-in are clean/orderly, and neat/well organized; follows FIFO method of product rotation; monitors and records assigned R/F temps daily; wears hairnet in production/prep areas and maintains hand hygiene standards.

Meal Delivery / Tray Retrieval

Ensures all patient food deliveries and retrievals are consistent with established timeframes, per department standard; checks trays for accuracy before delivery to patient.

Service Recovery

Makes considered and reasonable service recovery decisions; takes responsibility for service issues as they arise and finds solutions; follows through in timely manner with requests for patients, visitors, and nursing.

Communication

Acts as an NS Dept. ambassador; informs NS managers/supervisors of food service issues and nursing feedback; maintains courteous relationships with all. Communicates appropriately with patients from pediatric to geriatric age ranges in the course of menu ordering and food service.

Staff Relief

Provides staff relief for co-workers in assigned areas, such as food prep, dish room activities, and silverware wrapping. Functions in the role of Room Service Facilitator Starter and Expeditor to cover breaks.

Nourishment R/F

Stocks and maintains the PAR levels for the unit refrigerators with snack/food items. Maintains temperature logs; discards expired products and staff food; ensures patient food is properly labeled.
