ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

1. Responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients by utilizing the nursing process within the realm of Mercy Hospital 's mission, policies, and procedures.

a. Administers direct nursing care for ER patients in a timely manner.

b. Triages and responds to the rapidly changing physiological and psychological status of complex emergency care patients.

c. Performs advanced life-saving interventions.

d. Applies current evidence-based knowledge and skills for assessing, diagnosing, planning care for and determining disposition of emergency patients and families.

e. Utilizes skillful, culturally sensitive and crucial communication during crisis or conflicts.

f. Performs initial and ongoing assessment of ED patients and documents appropriately.

g. Assist providers with treatment of patients.

h. Takes care of trauma patients using TNCC guidelines and adhering to performance improvement indicators.

i. Takes care of cardiac patients adhering to performance improvement indicators.

j. Takes care of stroke patients adhering to performance improvement indicators.

k. Provides patients and families with education, assists with referrals and documents appropriately.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience: Graduation from an approved school of nursing and one year of experience as a staff registered nurse. Prefer one year of cardiac background.

7. Required skill and accurate use of medical equipment and technical skills.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Requires current North Dakota licensure as Registered Nurse or is in possession of a valid temporary permit or license. Requires certification in CPR, ACLS, TNCC and PALS.

Working Conditions: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, ventilated nursing unit. Regularly exposed to infectious or contagious diseases. May be exposed to emergency or crisis situations. May be exposed to blood and body fluids on a daily basis. Regularly exposed to risk of blood-borne diseases. Also has contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

Physical Requirements: Work is of medium to heavy demand, walking and standing most of the time while on duty. Considerable lifting and moving of patients. No limitations for walking, lifting or bending. Must have ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less. Also lifts supplies and equipment.
