Job Summary:

All

On-Call Chaplains will be involved in Patient Care for patients by

providing spiritual care to both the patient and their families. Chaplains also provide Spiritual Care to

staff and staff family members when needed.

Chaplains will assist in providing prayer services and education to

interested persons, and they also model a reverent spirit of mission and values

as set forth at Mercy

Medical Center.

Is held accountable for following the

policies and procedures of the department, organization, and CHI. Additionally, the position serves as a role

model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of

positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission , Vision and Behavior Standards of

Mercy Medical Center.

Essential Duties:

1.

Responds to calls within a

reasonable time.

2.

Visits patients/ families and staff to identify spiritual issues and

needs.

3.

Assists in trauma situations as needed.

4

Assists in calling family pastor when requested and help out as needed

once the pastor arrives. Help as a liason with staff and family.

5.

Assists in preparing mortuary release forms in death situations and call

Life Source to report the death. Respond

to organ donation requests and assist families with questions.

6.

Ministers to staff by being aware of interactions and reactions in

traumas or deaths offering comfort, encouragement and prayer.

7.

Assists in providing spiritual education through department planned

activities.

8.

Assists in leading prayer services and providing spiritual resources for

staff and patients.

9.

Has knowledge of Advanced Directives and help in preparation of

documents when asked

10.

Participates in Mercy Medical celebrations, such as CHI Feast Days.

11.

Models Mission

and values to all staff and patients

Certifications

ACPE or NACC preferred.

Education

Theological training and one unit of CPE preferred.

Experience Previous ministry/church leadership/pastoral experience preferred.
