This Intern will perform various scientific, engineering, and laboratory support functions on a high visibility project. Duties may include mechanical testing, prototype development and fabrication, working with R&D, Testing Services, Quality, and Manufacturing to drive project activities and meet strict timeline goals. Role will involve significant responsibility and require high performance, with need for strong skills in organizing, designing, performing and monitoring of experiments, writing testing protocols and reports, data acquisition and collection, and design of novel test systems/fixtures/methods. Daily direction will be provided by lead scientific staff/scientist. Tasks include:
* Help coordinate and create experimental planning/execution/reporting
* Develop and execute testing procedures (mechanical testing of biomaterials)
* Design experimental strategies and alternative paths forward; develop/create test plans
* Compile, organize and interpret technical data; author detailed technical reports and patent disclosures; maintains central databases
* Coordinate/execute sample preparation/distribution for internal and third party analysis
* Identify and develop new test methods as required
* Adhere to safety policy procedures
* Assist in preparation of documentation and project for all phases of product development
* Assist with lab functions; troubleshooting and problem analysis for position related projects
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Highly motivated and quick learner that wants to be part of successful team
Current undergraduate student pursing a major in Materials Science & Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
Undergraduate student who has completed their 2nd year strongly preferred
GPA of 3.0 or above
Must be available to work at least 40 hours a week
MS Office skills
Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Knowledge of a specialized or technical field such as biotechnology; biomaterials; biomechanics
Experimental design, data acquisition and analysis
Materials development and fabrication
Good organizational skills
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Access
Good teamwork skills
Knowledge of Minitab or other statistical software
