About this job

Assists skilled trades workers with routine installations, repairs, construction and replacement of equipment. Uses a variety of hand and power tools. Determines extent of repairs needed; requests assistance from skilled craftsman for any problems beyond area of knowledge or expertise. Follows detailed instructions from skilled craftsman or in written format. Ability to read and follow detailed instructions. Thorough knowledge of equipment with some formal training or education.

Performs maintenance and urgent, corrective and routine repairs.

Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Engineering Department.

Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.

Performs urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned mechanical and plumbing systems as required.

Performs maintenance on equipment and systems as required.

Performs manual and other duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).

Performs preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of hospital and complies with all building safety codes this is to include facility equipment and associated controls.

Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.

Actively participates in Performance Improvement.

Activity participates in assigned meetings.

Education: High School diploma, with 2 year post secondary degree from accredited institution in the field of facility maintenance, or the equivalent time worked in the field of facility maintenance.

Experience: At least 2 years experience in the field of facility maintenance.

Flexibility in scheduling of hours. May be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays.

Other: Ability to read, write and follow instructions in English. Good oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Strong analytical and mathematical abilities. Excellent organization and people skills. Computer skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Internet and current hospital FM computer programs, preferred and basic blue print reading skills.

This position is primarily light in nature. The maximum amount of lifting is 40% of body weight or maximum of 60 lbs. The position requires walking, standing and sitting. Must meet the hospital's established health requirements.
