Our Donor Collection Assistant / Mobile Phlebotomist is responsible for processing blood donors at blood collection sites utilizing manual and automated collection system.

POSITION RELATIONSHIPS  Responsible to a Senior Manager-Operations, District Manager, Assistant Director-Operations and ultimately the Director of Collection. Inter-Relationships: Works closely with all Collections Department staff, Collections Administrative personnel, BCSS staff, Production Planning, volunteers, donors, and all American Red Cross customers (both internal and external).



RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES Duties include, but are not limited to the following:  Perform health histories on blood donors. Refer all questions or vital sign findings that require nursing judgment to a registered nurse in accordance with guidelines. Review blood donation record prior to venipuncture for completeness. Perform venipunctures on all whole blood donors according to SOP's.  Care for and document donor reactions under the general supervision and direction of a registered nurse. Care for and document information about hematomas under the general supervision and direction of a registered nurse. Assume duties of the volunteer blood aides as directed. Document complete and accurate information on all records. Documentation must be legible. Maintain clear and orderly work stations. Assist in set-up and breakdown of blood collection sites including automated technology. Work as a positive team member. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.  Attend meetings, updates and inservices as assigned and/or required. Accept constructive feedback.  Adapt readily to a dynamic environment.  Display flexibility regarding change of assignment. Perform quality control procedures according to SOP's.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE  Education and Experience  Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Must be able to read and write English.  Must have customer service training or equivalent.



Job Knowledge and Skills  Basic computer skills are desirable.  Must have good communication skills, both written and oral. Must have good people skills.  Must be detail oriented with a good compliance record.  Must be flexible and work well as a team member. Must be reliable.  CPR certification is desirable.  Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
