@Work Medical Services is sourcing for our client an OR  RN NURSE 1 for the Orlando, FLA area.  This is a direct hire opportunity.

Position Summary

Provides direct patient care in the inpatient perioperative setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses the data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the necessary information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards.
  • Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Standards of Care and Practice.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the team member’s capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition to other health care team members.
  • Collects and assesses patient health data guided by the application of knowledge of physiological and psychological principles and experience, which is essential to establishing a nursing diagnosis and predicting outcomes. Pertinent data include, but are not limited to:
    • Current medical diagnoses and therapies
    • Physical status and physiological responses
    • Psychosocial status of the patient
    • Cultural, spiritual, and lifestyle information
    • The individual’s understanding, perceptions, and expectations of the procedure
    • Previous responses to illness, hospitalizations, and surgical, therapeutic, or diagnostic procedures; and

  • Identifies expected outcomes unique to the patient. Outcomes should include, but are not limited to:
    • Absence of infection
    • Maintenance of skin integrity
    • Absence of adverse effects through proper use of safety measures related to positioning, extraneous objects, and chemical, physical, and electrical hazards
    • Maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance
    • Knowledge of the patient and significant others of the physiological and psychological responses to surgical intervention; and
    • Participation of the patient and significant others in the rehabilitation process
  • Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. Examples of interventions performed include, but are not limited to:
    • Provision of information and supportive Perioperative teaching specifically related to the surgical intervention and nursing care. Preserves and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity and rights of the patient.
    • Identification of the patient
    • Verification of the surgical site
    • Verification of the operative consent and reports of essential diagnostic procedures
    • Positioning according to physiological principles
    • Adherence to principles of asepsis
    • Provision of appropriate and properly functioning equipment and supplies for the patient
    • Provision for comfort measures and supportive care to the patient
    • Environmental monitoring and safety
    • Evaluation of outcomes in relation to the identified interventions, and
    • Communication of intraoperative information to significant others and the health care team to provide for continuity of care
    • Maintains a safe and caring environment for the patient.
    • Manages both emotional and physical pain and promotes comfort based on standards and protocols.
    • Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care.
  • Evaluatesthepatient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes. The OR Nurse I, Inpatient systematically evaluates the quality, safety, and appropriateness of nursing practice. Such activities may include:
    • Identifying and assigning responsibility for monitoring and evaluation activities
    • Delineating the scope of patient care activities or services
    • Identifying dimensions of performance
    • Developing quality indicators for each identified dimension of performance
    • Establishing thresholds for evaluation of the quality indicators
    • Collecting data related to the dimensions of performance and indicators
    • Evaluating care based on the cumulative data collected
    • Taking actions to improve care of services
    • Assessing the effectiveness of the action(s) taken and documenting the outcomes, and
    • Communicating the data organization-wide
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, environmental concerns, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

  • Participates in process improvement activities as assigned.

Education/Training

  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
  • Meets all mandatory and developmental requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department.

Licensure/Certification

Current RN license in the State of Florida renewed every two years. Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required based on the appropriate certification for the patient population.

Experience

Two (2) years Surgery RN experience required. Based on area of assignment, specialty courses and specialty experience may be required. Able to meet job duties of OR Nurse I, Inpatient. Must meet perioperative specific performance competencies.
