Overview of Position: The Democracy for Non-Profit (D4NP) Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director in supporting and advancing the organization civic engagement activities, the young civic leaders program and electoral legislative campaigns. The position key role is coordinating, developing and implementing civic engagement training, innovative voter engagement projects and coordinating of re-granting voter engagement initiatives.
 
The primary responsibility consist of three major areas:
  • Civic Engagement Initiative (CEI): A technical assistance re-granting project that supports community based organizations and groups to build and sustain their civic engagement and voter engagement program. The overall goals of this initiative is to build power, increase civic engagement activities and improve voter participation in communities with a majority of low-income, youth and people of color.
  • Voter Activation: The voter activation network is currently in its development and pilot stage with the overall objective to develop a network of voters that will cultivate, educate and mobilize inactive voters; creating them into consistent voters. Currently, the organization is piloting the B500-Boston network with the goal to have 10,000 inactive voters consistently coming out to vote by 2018.
  • Electoral Campaigns: Encompasses the organization's legislative and voter access campaigns to advance voter access, transparency and accountability for voters across Massachusetts. The campaigns selected promote and advance issues that directly impact MassVOTE voters and support social, economic and racial justice issues. Currently, the campaigns consist of advancing re-precincting and implementation of early voting and pre-registration election reform.
Some of the major responsibilities include:
  • Managing day-to-day elements of CEI including request for proposal process and tracking.
  • Develop, review and revise MassVOTE civic engagement training materials and modules.
  • Develops detailed reports on grantees work and provide structured feedback for improvement.
  • Works with MassVOTE staff to develop voter education materials and campaign plans.
  • Representative of organization at coalition meetings and additional spaces as needed to advance DN4P work.
  • Other duties as assigned to advance voter access, accountability and education.
Position Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or associate degree with 3 years or more of equivalent experience, particularly in community organizing, voter engagement and/or issue campaigns.
  • Commitment and understanding of social justice movements and advancing voting rights, access and accountability.
  • Experience working with diverse communities with the ability to build trusting and supportive relationships with a diverse group of people.
  • Comfortable and experience working with technology and particularly with Microsoft applications and online platforms.
  • Experience in planning small to large convenings, events, trainings and workshops.
  • Strong listening, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Experience in designing interactive trainings and workshops that serve a diverse range of communities. 
  • Excellent planning and organizing abilities, including coalition building.
  • Strong ability to provide assistance to organizations on a one-on-one basis and in a group environment.
  • Strong experience ability to prioritize work activities and use time effectively.
  • Strong team player with a willingness to engage in various activities as needed.
  • Willingness to be an avid learner and ability to seek resources to advance personal and organizational development.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly dynamic, flexible and fast-paced environment.
