BASIC FUNCTION: Shares the responsibility for the overall success and profitability of the store with the General Manager. This requires effective management and leadership of the store to drive sales and profit through excellent customer service, modeling superior selling skills, developing and retaining successful staff members, controlling expenses, maintaining effective visual presentation standards, ensuring quality framing and production standards, maintaining established product margins, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and directives and, most importantly, exceeding expectations of customers’ shopping experience. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 1 year effective retail supervisory experience or experience in a key contributor role. Also requires demonstrated expertise in selling skills (including modeling best selling behaviors). Superior customer service standards to establish and maintain customer shopping experience which exceed expectations. Knowledge of successful store operating procedures and demonstrated compliance with policies and procedures. Strong communication, time management, and sound decision making skills. Demonstrated visual merchandising skills and demonstrated knowledge of effective payroll planning and scheduling. Demonstrated skills in training and coaching associates in a variety of areas. An understanding of the P & L and accountability standards. Must have the ability to read and understand maps/plan-o-grams, how to read, interpret and execute markdown’s or price changes. Must possess the ability to adapt to frequent changes. Must have a general understanding on how to manage human resources issues such as employee relations matters, local and federal laws, documenting performance management, writing performance appraisals, conducting meetings, giving positive and constructive feedback, interviewing and recruiting skills, planning and organizing skills. Must have P & L knowledge and a general understanding of how to manage a profitable business. SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS: Work rotating shifts on the management schedule including a mix of opening, closing, mid-day and weekend shifts in order to provide maximum sales leadership and supervision throughout all hours of operations. The Assistant Manager position is a Full-time position requiring a 40-hour workweek; however, the schedule may be altered to adapt to the needs of the business. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job. POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED Shares responsibility for supervising all associates including, Lead Associates, Framing Associates, Receiving Associates, and Sales Associates, CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. SALES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE LEADERSHIP Maximizes store sales revenue and profitability by driving the selling process and ensuring store exceeds customers’ expectations for their shopping experience through personal demonstration and modeling of effective selling behaviors, training and coaching staff to consistently provide exceptional sales and service, closely monitoring, responding to and coaching on reportable selling indicators and by ensuring quality and timely production of framing orders are consistently provided. Should be one of the top sales contributors to the store. Assistant Store Managers are expected to maintain a minimum company selling average in custom and time frame sales. 2. ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT Assists in development and execution of on-going recruitment plans and refers to job descriptions and hiring recommendations to select qualified staff with appropriate availability for store scheduling needs in a timely manner. In addition, adopts and implements effective orientation and training plans, ensures associates are design certified, provides daily sales performance coaching, demonstrates effective communications skills with staff, provides timely and effective performance feedback and administers appropriate coaching and disciplinary actions when needed in order to provide effective leadership for a customer-focused, safe and productive staff. 3. MANAGING EXPENSES AND PRODUCT MARGINS Effectively manages store schedules to support customer experience levels and support business projects within payroll budget including making necessary adjustments when needed to adapt to the business needs. In addition, continually monitors and manages use of all controllable expenses (i.e. payroll, supplies, utilities, etc.) and maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and materials and effectively controls shrink. Ensures staff accurately record all transactions (i.e. SKUs, prices, markdowns, appropriate discounts, etc.) for all merchandise and continually monitors areas affecting custom frame margins to achieve or exceed established goals (i.e. verifying staff correctly measures, recycles scrap materials, sales TimeFrame orders, etc.) 4. MANAGING FRAME ROOM OPERATIONS & PRODUCTION STANDARDS Effectively manages framing operations including timely and effective framing certification training, verifying accuracy, quality of production and timeliness of order completion for customers (both custom and time-frame), verifying accurate and timely ordering of materials (and following up with vendors as needed), and ensuring staff maintain framing workflow, quality control and productivity standards at all times. 5. MANAGING VISUAL PRESENTATION STANDARDS Ensures store best represents optimum visual presentation standards at all times through effective management of product placement, fixture usage, promotional set-ups, signage programs and plan-o-gram (POG’s) implementation, and ensures staff maintain routine housekeeping standards. Must have the ability to read and understand maps/POG’s. 6. TEAMWORK Minimum coverage requires Assistant Managers to perform other duties within the store which would benefit the overall store organization and team, including, but not limited to assisting in the frame shop, total store housekeeping and recovery, unloading trucks, customer carry out and taking out trash. Each associate is vital to day-to-day business. Cross-trained teams are required. 7. ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND DIRECTIVES Ensures all associates are in compliance with all Company policies rules & regulations and directives. In addition, ensures activities are in compliance with all company and government established labor laws and appropriately responds and notifies supervisor if any concerns or complaints occur. 8. ASSISTANT MANAGER AND MANAGER ON DUTY REPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to: sales leadership, resolution and prevention of customer complaints, store opening and closing procedures, Ensures that all product is received per company procedure and product is promptly and properly placed per planogram directions; unloading trucks, customer carry out and taking out trash, management register functions (i.e. refunds, exchanges, employee purchases, etc.), ensuring accuracy of all cash handling functions, bank deposits and daily sales reports, reconciliation and secure maintenance of all store funds, analyzing sales, margin, profit & loss results and responding accordingly, timely and effective scheduling of staff, ongoing supervision, direction and evaluation of staff; manages employee conflicts or complaints. Ensures that all associates adhere to the Company’s policies/procedures/standards; Additional Managerial duties may be assigned including: interviewing, selecting, training and development of staff, setting and adjusting hours of work staff, evaluating performance of staff, maintaining product and sales records for use in supervision and control of store’s success, administering appropriate disciplinary action (and input for recommendations of terminations), controlling the flow and distribution of materials, merchandise and supplies once delivered to location.
