Under direction of the Stationary Engineer-Chief, performs journeyman level maintenance repair work at Joliet Treatment Center; functions as lead worker of offender crew in repair of facility, equipment, machinery, and preventative upkeep of grounds; conducts on-the-job instruction to develop offender skills in mechanical and maintenance trades; may operate power drive equipment; enforces and maintains disciplinary, safety, sanitary, security, and custodial measures.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades. Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within months of employment. Requires extensive knowledge of institution rules, regulations and requirements for the control of residents. Requires extensive knowledge of tools, materials, methods and standard practices of the trade. Requires ability to plan and lay out work according to requirements of assignment and to lead residents by example and instructions. Requires ability to estimate and effect economical usage of materials or supplies.
