SUMMARY: Performs technically difficult repairs on damaged boats and propulsion systems on all UO watercraft using hand tools and power tools and diagnoses watercraft failures for long-term corrective action that can/may involve investigative and research techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diagnose boat and/or propulsion system failures and provide immediate and long-term corrective action.  Involves researching defective mechanically- controlled items/parts, instructional information to complete the repair process when needed.  This entails logical and extensive troubleshooting and referring to technical manuals, technical library and the CCMS system while utilizing a systematic approach.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work, e.g. visual inspections, lubricate, change fluids, change filters, change wiper blades, adjust belts, etc.
  • Requisition of parts from the storeroom for materials needed to perform PM’s and repairs.
  • Reports all materials used in performance of repairs on work orders.  Document all labor used in performance of repairs on work orders.
  • Cleans/sweeps shop.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: Maintain all watercraft on property.  Watercraft may be powered by 2 or 4 stroke gasoline or propane powered outboard engines, inboard 2 or 4 stroke diesel or gasoline powered engines, or 2 or 4 stroke inboard / outboard gasoline or diesel engines.  May be some paint and body work to the hulls of watercraft.  Maintenance to all watercraft sub systems including but not limited to electrical, hydraulic, steering, and power transmission.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED is required.
  • Technical school certification is preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-7 years watercraft mechanic with diesel and gasoline propulsion system required and hull repair experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required to operate company vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) stand for prolonged periods; use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs/ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use close vision with or without corrective lens. (clear vision at 20 inches or less); use peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); use depth perception (vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus while in changing light conditions e.g., sunshine to indoor or dark conditions); work in varied light conditions including low or diminished lighting; maintain alertness and attentiveness up to 4 hours while working varying hours; maintain concentration/focus (e.g., ability to interpret the work environment and make decisions on predetermined operating policies and procedure).
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) walk for prolonged periods (including ability to walk at a given pace that is predetermined by a moving sidewalk); sit for prolonged periods; talk; hear audible alarms, voice commands with background noise; work at heights for prolonged periods of time including heights with or without railings or over open pits greater than 4 feet; reach, pull, push with hands and arms above/below head; repeat motions more than twice per minute; work in an environment subject to vibrations; lift up to 75 pounds with control; push up to 100 pounds with control; use distance vision with or without corrective lens. (clear vision at 20 feet or more); use color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); work in small or tight spaces.
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) repetition-using an input device-a keyboard or mouse-in a steady manner; work in an environment with flashing lights including strobe lamps; use ability to smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) work in outdoor weather conditions to include direct sunlight, heat or cold; work with aerosols (spray paints, brake cleaner); use a motorized company vehicle or a leased or personal vehicle for company business; work on water attractions or yachts.
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) work in wet, humid conditions (non-weather); work with fumes or airborne particles requiring the use of a respirator; work with compressed gas cylinders or tanks; work with aerosols (spray paints, brake cleaner); be exposed to loud noise levels (noise when raised conversation is needed).
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) work in extreme heat (non-weather); work with cranes; use an extendable boom forklift (Lull); use a forklift (sit down); erect or work on scaffolding; use a highreach (aerial lift); use a backhoe/frontend loader (earth moving equipment); require welding, cutting, brazing, or working with open flame; work with toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous chemicals, fluorescent lamps or batteries; work with paint/solvents; be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, vomit); transport fuels or compressed gases; driver operations (SCUBA); perform maintenance or servicing of powerized (energized) equipment (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical)  LOTO.
