Position Summary:

Responsible for the service and repair of all HVAC and refrigerated equipment in assigned group of stores to keep it in a safe working condition. Installs equipment and supports construction projects to ensure Facilities stays in alignment with divisional goals. Essential Job Functions:

• Inspect systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose problems and/or failures in HVAC, boiler and refrigeration systems to identify equipment and /or system repairs and replacement needs.
• Commission stores to be in alignment with Kroger refrigeration standards.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance as needed and/or assigned for refrigeration equipment on all types, sizes, refrigerant and temperature ranges.
• Trouble shoots, repairs and overhauls equipment such as compressors, pumps, air handlers, air dryers, heat exchangers, other mechanical equipment or electrical, pneumatic and electrical components.
• Install and replace all types of pumps or refrigeration equipment, according to prints, specifications, diagrams and other instructions.
• Read gauges and instruments and adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls and pumps to control level of fluid pressure and distribution in systems.
• Test malfunctioning systems and components using electrical, mechanical, digital and pneumatic controls.
• Respond to emergency situations during after-hours to resolve immediate safety, loss of sale and product concerns.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

• High school degree or General Education Degree (GED)
• 5-7 years of progressively responsible HVAC and refrigeration equipment installation, maintenance and repair experience
• Must possess EPA Universal Certification
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to travel independently as needed
• Accuracy/attention to detail
• Ability to organize/prioritize tasks/projects
• Ability to continue education as necessary
• Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes
• Technical knowledge of refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning & Research (HVAC&R) controls, test equipment, materials, tools, maintenance and energy
• Knowledge of repair, maintenance and installation techniques
• Skill in reading and understanding schematics
• Skill in analyzing HVAC or refrigeration malfunctions from performance and test equipment readings and determining appropriate repairs
• Proficient in uses of all electric hand tools, oxy-acetylene torches, electric arc welders, test meters, and all other related equipment
• Food safety certification (must become certified within 3 months)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Communicate effectively with all levels of management and field staff
• Moderate to high level computer skills

Desired Previous Job Experience:

• Trade school or Associates degree preferred
• Knowledge of Service Hub and in-store networks
• Previous experience as a Refrigeration Technician, Energy Technician, or Technology Project Manager
