Opportunity for a mid-level attorney with a strong employment and labor law background to join our Employment Law team. The successful candidate will join a collegial and hard-working Legal Department, and will be responsible for partnering closely with Human Resources and Associate Relations by advising on employment law issues and policies and responding to employment claims. This position will report to the Vice President, Legal - Labor & Employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Investigate and respond to attorney letters and agency matters, including charges with the EEOC, MCAD, NLRB and other state fair employment practices agencies. Draft responses, interview and prepare witnesses, and engage with agency personnel and outside counsel.

-Assist with litigation matters, including but not limited to, issuing litigation hold notices, producing discovery, coordinating witnesses, and partnering with outside counsel.

-Provide practical legal advice to Human Resources/Associate Relations and management on matters related to all stages of the employer/employee relationship, such as hiring, performance management, corrective action, and termination.

-Advise Human Resources on legal and regulatory issues impacting TJX’s employment policies and practices, including compliance with non-discrimination and harassment laws, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and other state and federal employment laws.

-Support all aspects of labor arbitrations, including but not limited to, selecting arbitrators, conducting discovery, preparing witnesses, representing the company at hearings, and drafting post-hearing briefs.

-Proactively manage risk by evaluating and advising on new statutory and regulatory requirements.

-Participate in drafting employment agreements and policies.

-Some travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will bring an ability both to provide high quality oral and written legal advice, and to connect well with all levels of internal clients. The candidate must be adept at providing legal advice that is practical as well as legally sound. A demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple matters simultaneously – ranging from the complex to the straightforward- is very important.

Applicants must have:

- JD from an accredited law school, as well as bar membership in one or more states in which the company conducts business.

-Approximately 5-8 years practicing employment law. Prior in-house experience is preferred but not required.

-Strong academic credentials.

-Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

-A strong work ethic; he or she must be professional, proactive, enthusiastic, flexible, comfortable with change; self-directed and highly ethical; exercise good judgment; and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect; and

-Ability to work as a team member, to maintain project deadlines and deliver on commitments.
