Graphics Teacher, Special Education - 16000DEF Job Clinical Primary Location United States-MD-MDBaltimore Organization Hastings Description MENTOR Maryland to provide on-site and alternative/additional educational services to adolescent program participants in a cognitive retraining & educational setting in accordance with their rehabilitation program. Essential Job Functions · Provides graphic services to eligible students as well as remediation for students struggling in the area of reading or language processing that has an impact upon effective use of skills in content Graphic is the primary focus. · Utilizes data based theories of development with adolescents in designing Graphic program · Utilizes the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-educational Battery in assessing students and CTOPP · Coordinates all reading and language services; · Guides professional development and curriculum development for staff · Assists in curriculum monitoring and material selection for each classroom · Provides tutorial services and small group services in support of the student’s IEP · Participates as an IEP team member · Integrates the use of the media center for the implementation of preplanned learning packets for individualized instruction; · Utilizes a variety of commercial reading programs (Wilson Reading Program, Houghton Mifflin Reading Program, etc..) In addition to teacher made instructional materials for the delivery of services · Incorporates the reading program in the student’s academic and vocational classes; · Actively participates in staff meetings and training opportunities provided by the Agency · Performs other related duties and activities as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Requirements · Excellent written and communication skills. Basic computer knowledge and use. Knowledge of various data base theories of literacy development. Assessment knowledge using the Comprehensive Test for Phonological Processing (CTOPP) and the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery. Adept in the utilization of diagnostic, prescriptive services for students. Ability to express ideas in a clear and concise manner. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff and the broader community. Education, Experience and Certification Master’s Degree in Reading or Education from an accredited college or university. Experience working with students with emotional disability MSDE Certified Reading Teacher or Reading Specialist.
