Job Summary:

This person drives the standardization and specification of components on the TJX Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) on the IBM stack including: Tivoli, Websphere and Datapower. This role designs and guides the implementation of large scale enterprise middleware projects by delivering solution architectures, technical designs, and reference documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • EAI & SOA Strategy
    • Lead in the development and on-going maintenance of the EAI Framework including technical and application alignment.
    • Define and enforce standards for tools, techniques and methodology for our strategic technologies; maintain up-to-date standards repository
    • Function as steward of our migration toward TJX’s approved architectural directions, ensuring that project teams understand and utilize concepts of reuse and services.
    • Publish and maintain documentation to be used by application development teams as it pertains to SOA-web service standards and our ESB.
    • Define, set, own Business Canonical definition and web service creation tied to an Enterprise Data Model.
    • Actively collaborate with and align to integration, information, and security & infrastructure strategies.

  • Solution Design and Architecture
    • Author’s high level integration designs from functional requirements that adhere to the integration standards and patterns.
    • Authors sizing and detailed estimates for all integration project requests. Participates in the creation of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models for large and complex projects. Maintains estimate artifacts for the solution designs throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Ensure the alignment of architectural designs of the organization and its information systems with the organizations business objectives.
    • Influence and guide external Service Providers and internal staff in implementation of the strategy, providing guidance and review of Service Provider’s architecture plans and designs to ensure methodology, best practices and standards are followed and to ensure overall quality of the integration solution.
    • Provide oversight in standards adherence through reviews of project work tied to a Technical Integration Review Board.
    • Develop an understanding of TJX’s global business strategies and contribute to development of an application rationalization.
    • Foster collaboration (with other Architecture and Solution Engineering competencies) in discussing and vetting out viable enterprise solutions based on multiple technology solutions.
    • Work with delivery teams that are building out or enhancing applications that will make use of our integration architecture, to provide mentorship, collaborate on the use of tools and methodology, and share expertise.

  • SOA Security
    • Implementation of SOA and Integration security standard’s from edge to endpoint leveraging the IBM WebSphere and Tivoli products, including working knowledge of Policy Detection and Enforcement Points for fine and course grained security.

      Peer Groups:

      This role partners effectively with Integration Architecture, Technical Delivery, Landscape Management, Infrastructure, Enterprise Architecture and other groups as needed. The incumbent participates as a member of the integration solution engineering team, providing thought leadership and input to strategy for Solution Delivery goals and objectives.

      Key Skills and Experience:

  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
    • 10 plus years of experience in architecture, design and implementation of complex integration solutions.
  • Architecture and Design
    • Proficient in architecture modeling, integration, practices, governance and reference patterns.
    • Knowledge and understanding of prevailing methodologies. (SOMA, OOAD, RUP).
    • Understanding of enterprise architecture standards and the demonstrate ability to advocate and enforce their use.
    • Experience with TOGAF, Zachman, FEAF, COBIT, ITIL or Gartner Framework a plus.
    • Ability to see IT patterns and can apply industry and internal patterns in solution delivery.
    • Ability to balance financial; architectural; business and IS objectives.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the business implications of introducing (or displacing) solutions.
  • Delivering SOA based solutions
    • Knowledge and understanding of conceptual architectures. (Web, Client-server, Real-time Integration, SOA, SCA/SDO).
    • Broad-based knowledge of the IT industry and trends.
  • IBM Middleware Products
    • Solid experience designing and implementing the IBM middleware stack (WebSphere Message Broker (WMB), MQ File Transfer Edition (MQ FTE), Data Power, WebSphere Registry and Repository (WSRR), WebSphere Business Manager (BPM), WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and ITCAM).
    • Knowledge of Web Service security tied to IBM Tivoli stack.
  • Leadership and Personal Presence
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate a complex and multi-faceted organizational structure utilizing a matrix management approach to accomplishing business objectives.
    • Formal and informal leadership skills.
    • Excellent collaboration skills (with other architects, analysts, managers, business).
    • Ability to mentor others outside of their direct area.
  • Awareness and experience within the retail industry is beneficial.
