About this job

This position is responsible for directing all merchandising, operational, and human resource functions for an individual store in order to achieve or exceed planned sales and profits.

Responsibilities
1. Ensures that guests receive outstanding service and exceed guest expectations by providing an attractive shopping environment and knowledgeable, friendly associates who are responsive to guest needs.
2. Achieve or exceed planned sales and profits by effectively merchandising the store, exceeding guest service level expectations, managing human resources, and controlling expenses.
3. Ensures proper merchandise presentation, inventory levels, assortments, and signing through a cooperative effort with the Distribution Center, Operations Department, Merchandising Department, and the Planning & Allocation Department. Manages and executes Standard Merchandising Procedures (SMP), Seasonal Layouts and other corporate merchandising directives when placing merchandise on the appropriate fixture. Manages the placement of signs in all departments or on designated features as directed by SMP.
4. Ensures that the store is properly staffed by maintaining high standards in the recruitment and selection of associates, by providing thorough training, and by maintaining a quality work environment that encourages the retention and development of talented associates. This is to be accomplished working together with the Operations Manager.
5. Controls store expenses to maximize profitability while operating within earned percent to sales goals.
6. Maintains confidentiality of store financial, sales and corporate information at all times.
7. Ensures that guests receive outstanding service and exceed guest expectations by providing an attractive shopping environment and knowledgeable, friendly associates who are responsive to guest needs.
8. Supervises, directs and develops Merchandise Assistant Managers and Operations Assistant Manager.
9. Encourages the growth and development of associates, Leads and Managers through effective training, communication, delegation, and personal example in order to promote talent within the organization. Participates in developmental programs designed to increase the managerial knowledge base of themselves, their Assistants and their Leads.
10. Maintains store compliance with all company policies and procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
11. Ensures that the store and its furniture, fixtures, and equipment are clean, properly maintained, and pose no safety hazards and contacts the appropriate people/company when repairs are necessary.
12. Identifies and communicates to corporate management potential opportunities for increased sales and market share. They may develop and be asked to execute plans to realize those opportunities.
13. Performs other related duties and special projects as may be assigned from time to time by upper management.
14. Must be at work on a regular and predictable basis or as scheduled. All Management staff and Leads are required to close a minimum of one evening shift per week. They are also required to work one shift per weekend OR both days every other weekend (this is determined by the Store Manager).
15. Open Availability -- When business needs dictate it, Management and Leads must be flexible in terms of working hours and/or work schedule in order to manage the organization’s workflow (this includes nights and weekends).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of company services and products, policies, and practices.
2. Knowledge of off-price retail merchandising concepts and business management principles including but not limited to Profit and Loss Statement analysis, Expense Control concepts, Revenue Growth concepts, etc.
3. Has the skill set to execute all functions contained within the Store Manager’s Functional Schedule
4. Demonstrates the ability to motivate and lead others towards the accomplishment of store and company objectives.
5. Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the company and with various business contacts outside of the company, in an articulate, professional manner.
6. Ability to interview, select, train and develop talented individuals.
7. Ability to teach and train associates on the sales floor and on occasion, physically work with associates on the sales floor.
8. Knowledge of management principles and the ability and desire to apply those principles to the management of the exempt and associate population. These principles refer to the “soft skills” that great managers utilize to manage people. Included here but not limited to motivating, planning, organizing, delegating, controlling, communicating and resolving conflict.

Education and Qualifications
1. Associate’s degree or 3-5 years retail management experience preferred.
