Position Description:
The CNC Setup Person is directly responsible for supporting the General Manager with the planning, scheduling, pre-production preparation/programming & execution of production orders to meet department & company goals. You will need to follow directions while helping to achieve a positive team environment. The set up person will complete production paperwork as needed, verifies product quality by assisting with measurements & inspection steps. Verify raw materials & tooling are staged pre-production, performs pre & post manufacture line clearances, maintains the purchase order log for incoming orders & makes sure paperwork is completed.
•    Program & set up machine tools, such as lathes according to specifications, tooling instructions, & standard charts, applying knowledge of machining methods: Reads blueprints or job orders for product specifications, such as dimensions & tolerances, & tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, & determine sequence of operations.
•    Selects, positions, & secures tools in tool holder.
•    Positions & secures work-piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps & wrenches.
•    Move controls to position tool and work-piece in relation to each other, & to set specified feeds, speeds, & depth of cut.
•    Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, & turns hand wheel to feed tool to work-piece or vice versa, & engages feed.
•    Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool & work-piece.
•    Observe the operation of machine & verify conformance of machined work-piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, & micrometers.
•    Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
•    Coordinate the CNC operators according to the General Manager’s assignments.

Requirements

Must:
•    Read process sheets, blueprints, & sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, & operating requirements
•    Edit pre-written programs without supervision when necessary
•    Edit program for process improvements & trouble shooting
•    Mounts work pieces in chuck, to faceplate, or to fixtures
•    Select & install preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or cutters, & automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet;
•    Initiate machining operation
•    Observe numerical control displays on control panel & compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, & speeds of machining cuts
•    Turn dials & switches to override program & correct machine performance
•    Inspect first run piece & spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications using operation certification knowledge
•    Study job packets & organizes materials for next order during cycles to reduce cycle & setup time
•    Pre-set tools before positioning them in lathe
•    Sets up & operates another machine tool during machining cycles
•    Machine metallic & nonmetallic materials
•    Set up & operates CNC machines using set-up sheets & written instructions with minimal supervision
•    Utilize all types of inspection instruments to check work per print without supervision
•    Possess knowledge of various cutting tools & has ability to determine various machine speeds and feeds
•    Perform basic equipment maintenance
•    Owns basic checking skills & hand tools at minimum
•    Through training, understands shop routers & SPC charts & product acceptance through operator verification
