Basic Function:

This Position is responsible for prepping, batching, mixing and grinding of all dry ingredients for the extrusion department as well as monitoring and recording of all inbound bulk raw materials. A strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions is required. Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Operate and understand batching and grinding equipment using WEM automation operating system.
    • Hammer Mills
    • Bulk Mixer
    • Weigh Scales
    • Mill Elevators and drags
  • Fix or diagnose any mechanical problems with batching equipment
  • Give clear communication and direction to several departments including but not limited to:
    • Material handlers
    • Truck Drivers
    • Micro Ingredient Warehouse Personnel
    • Western Milling Feed Mill
    • Extrusion Operators
    • Maintenance Department
  • Monitor levels of bulk raw material bins.
    • Work with procurement department and Western Feed mill to coordinate delivery of bulk shipments
  • Ensure the goods delivered to the warehouse are in accordance with approved orders and the associated bill of lading or invoice.
    • Quality check received items prior to unloading.
    • Take samples of product coming off the trucks.
    • Verify the food safety of each load.
    • Maintain records of all bulk inbound shipments
  • Responsible for housekeeping of the batching department. This includes sweeping the floor, removing the trash, cleaning at the end of the shift, preparing for next day’s/shift’s production, and finalizing any paperwork in an accurate, clear, and concise manner.
  • Report any food safety issue observed to Manager or Supervisor.
  • Report any security breaches, attempts at product tampering or contamination, or other suspicious behavior observed to Manager or Supervisor.

Qualifications and Competencies:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability necessary to perform this job successfully:
  • Education/Experience:
      • A high school diploma or its equivalent is required
      • Ability to communicate in English effectively verbally and in written form
      • Minimum of two years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in similar role
        • Experience in a food manufacturing environment is preferred
      • Forklift certified preferred
    • Skills:
      • Attention to detail
      • Highly self-motivated
      • Highly responsible
      • Takes direction well, open to feedback and does not have a problem submitting to authority
      • Ability to follow documented processes
      • Ability to multi-task and maintain a high level of accuracy
        • 10 key (weigh master experience preferred)
      • Excellent organization skills
      • Strong communicator
      • Safely operate a forklift and other mechanical equipment
      • Proficient computer skills (touch screen
    • Physical Requirements:
      • Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs. on a regular basis
      • Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 100 ft.
      • Able to stand throughout the day and perform occasional heavy lifting
Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.

  • The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process
