Position Summary:
The position of Import Testing/Audit Specialist is responsible for supporting the Product Safety Compliance program at Burlington Stores and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and federal regulatory guidelines. Specific knowledge and/or experience of one or more of the following regulatory environments: Consumer product safety regulations & standards: FDA, home goods, cosmetics, children/baby products, electronics, footwear and/or import regulations and standards.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work within strict timing/dates to ensure on-time sailing of import shipments
• Determine, compliance related documentation required for entry into US
• Request, review and approve component testing and ensure the most up to date protocols are being used.
• Ensure all products are tested at a CPSC approved labs
• Review laboratory assessments and determine is acceptable according to state and federal regulatory laws, and according Burlington’s best practices
• Issue Children’s Product Certificates on a per-item basis for compliant products
• Issue General Conformity Certificates on a per-item basis for compliant products
• Identify products in need of Prop 65 labeling or applicable testing
• Review Cosmetic Certificates and Labeling standards
• Ensure all paper and electronic documentation is properly stored as per CPSC and CBP regulations
• Maintain and promote continuous and proactive communication with all departments that affect Compliance
• Keep informed on all changes to testing guidelines to ensure Burlington Stores remains compliant
• Work continuously with and follow up with vendors and buyers to ensure reports are sent in timely.
• Provide guidance to Burlington’s Merchants and Vendors regarding regulatory or compliance issues and testing submission guidelines.
Scope and Impact:
Serve as the front line compliance expert for all direct import shipments to ensure Burlington Stores remains compliant with all regulations required by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other governmental agencies.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of equivalent experience preferred
Experience: 2 to 4 years import compliance experience required in a corporate retail chain environment. 1-2 years of retail experience to include compliance and international processes and requirements. Direct experience with US Consumer Product Safety regulations (CPSIA, FDA, FCC, FTC, EPA) and compliance processes.
Skills and Abilities: Strong reasoning, analytical skill, decision making, exceptional organizational skills, critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite products with a strong working knowledge of Excel and Adobe.
