JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
Responsible for the maintenance of the company Quality Assurance and Safety programs.Ensures ongoing compliance with all policies and procedures related to QA and Safety and continuously updates the programs when necessary.

Essential Job Functions

* Support and assist in the development, implementation, review, verification and validation activities of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan.
* Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System.
* Drive the sampling program for outside lab analysis.
* Coordinate and help manage the retained samples program on all finished good products and appropriate raw materials
* Assist with 3rd party audits (GFSI, SQF, etc.), regulatory agencies (FDA, State Food and OSHA), customer audits, insurance safety agents and inspectors.
* Create, update and maintain needed programs to match FDA and customer needs.
* Create, update and maintain required OSHA policies and programs such as Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Entry, Hazardous Waste, etc.
* Assist the sanitation team by overseeing outside providers (pest control) and ensure the MSDS program is up to date. 
* Assist in conducting ongoing Team Member training on Safety, GMPs and food related issues.
* Update and test recall procedures including tracking and notification.
* Assist in organizing and leading Safety/Sanitation meetings.
* Inspect plant for ongoing safety hazards and practices.
* Help with R & D activities.
* Maintain compliance with product specifications, labeling, and regulatory standards.
* Assist with implementing HACCP, SQF, GMP, BRC and other food safety and quality programs for the plant.
* Other duties as assigned. 

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology or similar field preferred.
* Minimum of three years of relevant experience preferably in a food manufacturing environment or an FDA regulated industry.
* HACCP and/or SQF certification preferred. If certifications are not attained prior to accepting the positon, candidate must acquire both certifications within first year in the position.
