JOB DESCRIPTION: Manages the schedules, coordination of daily activities and work assignments for the Neurophysiology department. Oversees administrative activities and acts as clinical resource. Works collaboratively with other members of the health care team to provide appropriate patient care. Communicates with other members of the health care team and shares medical information. Serves as a clinical resource to medical staff. Works closely with Lead Technologists and staff to ensure complete and accurate documentation of all patient care. Assists with inventory control of supplies and equipment carts. Observes universal and/or specialized precautions in carrying out daily responsibilities. Oversees and coordinates development and implementation of formal training and orientation programs for staff. Administers, interprets, and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Assisted by Lead Technologists, maintains departmental records pertaining to personnel, continuing education, leave requests, and attendance. Evaluates equipment and makes purchasing recommendations. Performs related responsibilities as required. Oversees equipment inspections to ensure their optimal operating condition; as well as ensures the proper set up, assembly, cleaning, and restocking of equipment before and after each use. Supervises the use of specialized equipment to ensure its proper placement and availability, schedules equipment and makes daily checks of inventory. Supervise inventory control of equipment carts; monitors proper re-stocking at the end of each shift. Administers, interprets and monitors compliance to policies, procedures and related forms in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines. Maintains high level of proficiency in managing personnel. Supervises lead technologists for both inpatient and outpatient service lines, working with Leads on managing employee performance. Supervises and provides guidance to Lead Technologists to provide on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Working with the Lead Technologists, takes corrective or disciplinary action as needed and resolves personnel issues, referring unusual or recurrent problems to the Department Director or Administrator. Monitors and directs workflow with Lead Technologist. Manages development of staff work schedules to ensure adequate coverage. Manages scheduling rotation of personnel through various practice areas to ensure the maintenance of technical competencies. In coordination with the Lead Technologists, conducts and attends meetings to communicate information and ideas, and to identify and resolve problems affecting operations. Routinely meets with Lead Technologists to ensure service operations are being carried out according to direction from clinical and departmental leadership direction. Oversees the patient's clinical response to procedures and communicates findings to other members of the health care team to ensure the coordination of optimal patient care. Works collaboratively with other members of the health care team to determine the appropriateness of prescribed treatment. Communicates with other members of the health care team to share medical information, test results, and patient observations to ensure the optimal delivery of patient care. Recommends the collection of additional data as needed. Performs routine and specialized technical procedures relating to Neurophysiology techniques as needed. Maintains a high level of proficiency in the technical skills required for managing patients and staff. Responds to patients and visitors in a positive, helpful, and professional manner to ensure that their needs are met. Works with senior leadership to formulate plan for professional development. Supervises Neurophysiology staff to create professional development for all staff members. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Assists with development and implementation of formal training and orientation programs for staff. Promotes continuing education for staff and provides opportunities for professional development. Reviews patient charts for proper documentation, checks physician's orders as needed, makes note of errors or problems for immediate resolution as needed. Maintains all departmental records pertaining to human resources. Human resources includes employee commitments, disciplinary actions, attendance, education, leave, policy compliance and charting, etc. Maintains regulatory compliance. Practices universal and/or specialized precautions in the daily cleaning and sterilization of work surfaces, equipment, and instruments. Serves as a clinical resource to medical staff, neurophysiology staff, and other health professionals concerning Neurophysiology. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registered as a Technologist by the National Board for Neurophysiology. A minimum of five years of experience in Neurophysiology (3 in Lead capacity). BLS certification required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Minimum): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
