Responsibilities:

Collaborates in the assessment of the patient and/or situations in a timely, consistent and systematic manner.

1.1 Assist RN with collection of admission data to be used in the assessment of patients at presentation to ED and appropriate procedures initiated.

1.2 Gathers data to be used in assessments for each patient as frequently as necessary including initial triage if needed.

1.3 Includes information obtained from patient/significant others in the data gathering process.

1.4 Accurately reassesses the patient's condition and integrates care of multiple situations to reach desirable outcomes in congruence with policy and procedures of the ED.

1.5 Data relevant to the patient is recorded on appropriate document before patient is released.

1.6 Re-assessment of patient is based on age specific and developmental status.

1.7 Notifies ED physician and/or assigned nurse when changes occur.

1.8 Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms understandable to the pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Implements the plan of care under direction of the RN to achieve identified outcomes for the patient according to policy and procedure.

2.1 Provides care to the patient under the direction of the RN according to the prescribed plan of care.

2.2 Paramedic shall perform procedures at their respective level of licensure in accordance with guidelines and other delegated tasks they have been approved to do.

2.3 Delegates appropriate and approved tasks to unlicensed health care providers.

2.4 Will meet the patient's psychosocial and educational needs according to the plan of care, including the safe use of equipment used in treatment or health maintenance.

2.5 Has knowledge of dysrhythmias and notifies assigned nurse and/or physician in a timely manner when the patient's condition warrants.

2.6 Monitor patients that require constant cardiac monitoring during transport to another department.

2.7 Documents that the care given reflects the patient's clinical needs and any changes in the patient's condition.

2.8 Patient's and/or visitors are informed frequently of progress in care.

2.9 Promotes the patient's psychosocial needs.

2.10 Evaluates patient's response to therapy and documents such response.

Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include pediatric, adolescent and geriatrics.

3.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.

3.2 Demonstrates the ability to provide care based upon the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and other age related factors.

Ensures a clean safe workplace which is stocked with necessary supplies.

5.1 Conduct walk-through of rooms and restock emergency rooms with needed supplies each day at the beginning of the shift

5.2 Empty trash and linen containers as needed

5.3 Stocks linen as needed.

5.4 Turn over rooms after each patient use: Clean carrier, change sheets, restock supplies, dispose of used linen and trash, ensure equipment returns to its proper place, and take care of instrument trays according the current procedure.

5.5 Ensures that the patient is in a clean and safe environment.

Maintains equipment, instruments and tray in good working order.

6.1 Report and label all faulty equipment and return to appropriate department. Ensure replacement equipment is obtained.

6.2 Ensure that oxygen tanks are full and in proper location.

6.3 Bag instruments for processing after each use and utilize current procedure for sending/receiving trays from SPD.

6.4 Gather ED equipment throughout the hospital and return to ED as needed.

6.5 Maintain trauma equipment in room 5 each day.

Patient Care Skills

7.1 Delivers physical care, comfort measures and elimination needs to patients in a safe and efficient manner.

7.2 Vital signs are recorded immediately on the chart; the patient is prepared for exam.

7.3 RN will do the admission / Discharge assessments, the Paramedic can do follow-up assessments

7.4 Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and 12 lead ECG.

7.5 Perform 12 lead ECG on the patient according to policy and procedures.

7.6 Transport monitored patients to hospital rooms and procedures as needed.

7.7 Demonstrate appropriate skills and level of functioning in accordance with policy/procedure and approved skills checklist.

7.8 Perform patient procedures as outlined in policy, "Utilization of Paramedic in the Emergency Department/Rapid Assessment Team."

Performs clerical duties efficiently when assigned to desk duty.

8.1 Answers phone utilizing appropriate telephone etiquette and professionalism. 8.2 Uses overhead paging system in a professional manner.

8.3 Ensures documentation in the patient record is done in a timely manner.

Participates in unit and organizational activities.

9.1 Participates in 75% of staff meetings.

9.2 Participates in process improvement activities such as data collection, in-services meetings, etc.

9.3 Participates in a hospital committee, special project or service (i.e. CPR instructor, preceptor) as requested.

9.4 Performs monthly chart reviews.

Comply with organizational policies and procedures. 1

10.1 Current ACLS, BLS-C, and PALS or PEPP.

10.2 Accurately completes clocking transactions.

10.3 Maintains hospital property and the hospital environment in a safe, clean and intact condition.

10.4 Adheres to universal precautions and all infection control guidelines.

10.5 Assists patients in transfer using proper body mechanics and transfer technique

Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIRED:

Education: Graduate of accredited School of Paramedicine.

Licensure: Licensed to practice Paramedicine in the state of Arkansas.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of EMS experience required as a paramedic.

Certification/Registration: BLS, ACLS, PALS required. Required certifications must be current before assigned to care for patients independently.
