POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) performs all Respiratory Therapy and Cardiopulmonary procedures as ordered by the physician, including an assessment of the patient prior to beginning treatment and continual monitoring during and immediately following the therapy. The RRT performs diagnostic procedures including: pulmonary function testing, electrocardiograms (EKG), holter monitoring, electroencephalograms (EEG), polysomnography sleep studies, and oximetry studies and provides patient education in accordance with established department patient education programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.

2. Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.

3. Performs all therapeutic and diagnostic modalities provided by the Department according to the established policies and procedures.

4. Performs patient assessment, evaluating the appropriateness of the therapy ordered and making suggestions as to how the patient might be best served.

5. Develops and implements plans of care for patients receiving respiratory therapy services and participates in patient care conferences regarding such plans of care with other health care providers.

6. Develops and implements patient education programs related to respiratory care and treatment of respiratory diseases and acts as a resource for other staff members with regard to performance of procedures within their realm of expertise.

7. Participates in departmental quality monitoring and improvement activities and assists other staff members to assure that quality patient care is provided.

8. Performs all procedures thoroughly and accurately.

9. Maintains work areas in a well-organized and neat manner.

10. Demonstrates awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for personal and professional growth.

11. Demonstrates self-directed learning, participates in continuing education by attendance at scheduled meetings and in-services, and completes all annual learning requirements.

12. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

13. Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.

14. Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.

15. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

16. Completes annual educational requirements.

17. Understands and adheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist may, with additional training and certification:

1. Perform all diagnostic modalities offered in the pulmonary function lab and coordinate the specific functions of the Lab assisting with the development of written guidelines.

2. Assist the Department Supervisor in the development, implementation and operation of new programs involving cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing.

3. Participate in the pulmonary rehabilitation program.

MINIMUM LEVEL OF REQUIRED PREPARATION AND TRAINING/POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience Required:

Minimum:

* Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care

* Current license in the State of Michigan

* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) completion.

Licensure/Certification:

Required: Registered Respiratory therapist (RRT).

Primary Source Verification: Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
