Position Qualifications:

* We require a nursing degree from an accredited school.

* Five to seven years work experience in a hospital setting. Management experience is required.

* You'll also need a current RN license in our state.

* Basic life support training should be completed in 90 days with advanced training required at certain intervals.

Responsibilities:

1. Clinical

1.1 Oversees utilization of the nursing process to develop and implement a multidisciplinary, comprehensive plan of care for the patient and family which promotes optimal patient outcomes.

1.2 Meets educational needs of patients and family

1.3 Coordinates nursing care based on knowledge of staff qualifications/competency and patient care requirements.

2. Leadership:

2.1 Delegates appropriately and assures co-workers are held accountable for following all policies and standards.

2.2 Accepts constructive feedback and makes changes appropriately.

2.3 Gives honest feedback in a timely fashion

2.4 Positive influence to others.

2.5 Demonstrates high self esteem or self worth.

2.6 Functions as a role model and mentor to all staff

2.7 Responsible for completion of exposure documentation and follow-up; provides support to affected co-worker(s).

2.8 Participates actively in achievement and maintenance of Nursing Excellence.

3. Financial Management:

3.1 Assure In-Quality staffing

3.2 Communicates with Admin Director and Nurse Mangers in regards to staffing and other financial variances.

4. Communication:

4.1 Utilizes Mercy Signature Service in all interactions.

4.2 Communicates in a diplomatic and professional manner and collaborates with team members using various forms of media.

4.3 Effectively communicates with Admin Director to provide pertinent unit information.

4.4 Assures timely notification of process changes to co-workers.

4.5 Utilizes constructive problem solving techniques to promote change and resolve issues.

4.6 Serves as an essential link in the chain of command for addressing co-worker, patient and family issues, concerns and problems using independent judgment.

5. Education & Competency:

5.1 Assesses educational needs of co-workers and works with available resources in meeting these needs.

5.2 Assures the availability of competent patient care co-workers.

6. Co-Worker Engagement:

6.1 Promotes a healthy work environment.

6.2 Creates an environment that facilitates the team to initiate actions that produce results.

6.3 Promotes Shared Goverance and engages co-workers in shared decision-making.

7. Regulatory / Accreditation:

7.1 Supports Ministry, System and Hospital policies and procedures.

7.2 Participates with the other members of the Management Team in writing, reviewing and revising policies and procedures as needed including policies and procedures.

7.3 Maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards and requirements.

8. Quality/Performance Improvement

8.1 Identifies and facilitates unit-based, system wide and ministry wide performance improvement activities including evaluation of individual co-workers.

8.5 Serves as an essential link in the chain of command to address issues or concerns as needed, including issues or concerns relating to co-worker performance and conduct. Responsible for implementing coaching or corrective action for co-workers when appropriate based on an independent assessment of the co-workers performance or conduct.

8.6 Uses independent judgment to assist in developing a plan of action to meet unit based performance standards and assists co-workers to meet these standards in collaboration with Quality Council unit based members. Monitors co-worker compliance with the standards and initiate coaching or corrective action for co-workers who fail to meet the standards.

8.7 Shares performance improvement outcomes with co-workers and identifies areas of strengths and opportunities, making adjustments to the plan of action as needed to meet the goals.

8.8 Participates in Root Cause Analysis to identify patient care deficits and work with unit-based Clinical Educator to develop an educational plan.

9. Patient Satisfaction:

9.1 Problem solves and performs follow-up activities to respond to grievance and resolve complex situations that arise

9.2 Accomplishes improvements in patient satisfaction with services received in the hospital; strives to exceed expectations of our customers

9.3 Provides ongoing support for Mercy Signature Service

9.4 Participates in rounding activities to proactively address patient satisfaction opportunities.

10. Patient Flow:

10.1 Keeps apprised of discharge planning obstacles and works with multi-disciplinary team to facilitate timely discharges.

10.2 Attends Bed Meetings to understand patient flow status of the hospital to meet patient needs.

10.3 Facilitates Bed Meetings and/or additional huddles as needed

10.4 Holds self and co-workers accountable for accommodating patient flow throughout the hospital, initiating coaching and corrective action and developing action plans to prevent or eliminate obstacles to optimal patient flow.

10.5 Utilizes independent judgment to ensure accurate staffing in order to optimize patient flow through successful management of resources.

11. Physician Relations:

11.1 Builds credibility with physicians as a champion for patient care, quality and nursing professionalism.

11.2 Serves as primary representative from the Management Team to collaborate with physicians in determining patient care services when more senior members of the Management Team are not present.

12. Professional Development:

12.1 Demonstrates good citizenship through involvement in community and regional organizations.

12.2 Promotes own professional growth through involvement in a professional organization.

12.3 Creates and maintains an environment wherein professional and personal growth is an expectation.

12.4 Holds self and others accountable for actions and outcomes.

13. Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate. Observes universal precautions consistently. Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance. Meets and exceeds Health System attendance standards.
