Our Exciting Work Environment

Southland Park Gaming & Racing, owned and operated by Delaware North, features more than 1,900 video gaming machines, electronic blackjack tables, a poker room, live greyhound racing and simulcast wagering.  Southland Park is located in West Memphis, Arkansas, only a short drive from downtown Memphis, Tennessee.
 
At Southland Park, guests have an array of options for dining and other entertainment, including the World Market Buffet, Bourbon Street Steakhouse, Sammy Hagar’s Red Rocker Bar and Grill and the Shine Blounge.

Responsibilities  

The Leadout safely transport Greyhounds from the paddock to starting box, off the track and to the correct trainer in accordance with the Company’s GuestPath Universal Service Standards and applicable Operational Standards and within the rules and regulations of the Arkansas Racing Commission. Must be able to obtain an Arkansas Racing License.

 Essential Functions:

  • Take Greyhound from trainer to correct crate in the lockout area during weigh-in.
  • Remove from lockout area and walk Greyhound through drug testing area under state’s official supervision.
  • Take Greyhound to scale and settle so accurate weight can be called
  • Take Greyhound to reviewing Stand
  • Present Greyhound to Paddock Judge for Identification
  • Dress Greyhound in correct blanket
  • Take Greyhound to Patrol Judge so that blanket and muzzle can be checked
  • Walk Greyhound to starting box
  • Load Greyhound into correct starting box
  • Proceed to escape turn to pick up Greyhound at end of race, remove blanket and muzzle and return to correct trainer.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Non-essential Functions:

  • Maintain cleanliness of Paddock Area

 Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Arkansas Racing License required

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  •  Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to work well with Greyhounds

 Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to hear buzzer and verbal commands
  • Ability to see clearly
  • Ability to walk and/or jog for majority of shift
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to bend and stoop

 Environmental Working Conditions:

  • Indoors and Outdoors
  • Various temperatures and weather conditions
  • Noisy Environment
