Autobody Technician (Bodyman)

Restoring damaged vehicles to their original structural integrity, function and appearance. Uses hand tools and power tools to remove or repair damanged parts, weld as needed and properly install new parts. Works with a variety of metals and plastics, as well as glass, electrical and mechanical parts. Damaged vehicles must be repaired correctly so theyw ill perform as designed, especially in subsequent collisions. Maintaining safe work environment by adhering to work standards and practices. Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests. Future careers include estimating, management and education.

REQUIREMENTS: Evaluating automotive bodies by planning repairs, replacing and refinishing parts, maintaining tools and equipment and maintaing records. Maintains quality service by following repair standards and conducting test drive, final inspection and correcting deficiencies. Documents actions by completing records. Maintains tools and equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintainign supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs. Repairs automotive bodiees by removing, fabricating, attaching, and aligning parts, repairing dents, filling and sealing depressions, hammering, shaping, shrinking, expanding, filing, grinding, sanding, smoothing and feathereging surfaces. Applies repair techniques and tools including wrenches, cutting torch, dent puller, hand, pneumatic and power tools, grinder, sander, welder, straightener, power, foot and hand shear, brake, drill press, drills, etc. Should have conceptual skills, verbal communication, welding and fabrication, power tools, basic safety and safety management, equipment maintenance, functional and technical skills, automotive manufacturing and attention to detail.
