Our Vision for this Role

As a Transportation Strategy & Network Operations Manager you are a critical member of our Supply Chain Leadership team, partnering with the AVP and VP of Store Transportation Services on key strategic initiatives. You will lead the broader service center cross dock network planning strategy, managing all aspects of the outbound network change process: network mapping, bidding and negotiations and continuous improvement projects. You will also lead the strategy for store delivery network optimization. This network consists over 2600 T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods stores across the US including Puerto Rico and Hawaii. This manager heads up a team that executes all aspects of operational reporting, network administration, and facilitates all in-house non-retail logistics.

You will be assigned a mix of core responsibilities which will optimize supply chain operational performance, drive cost savings and build the necessary tools and capabilities to support our continued growth. These responsibilities would be, but are not limited to:

  • Leading facility and carrier business reviews.
  • Leading negotiation initiatives with our carrier partners.
  • Supporting the field Transportation managers on initiatives related to budget, negotiations and operational optimization.
  • Partnering with senior leadership on a daily basis
  • Strategic cross-functional projects with business partners in the corporate offices and across the DC network.
  • Managing all aspects of operational reporting and related communications.

Performance in this role will lead to opportunities to move across our Supply Chain organization and develop a well-rounded background in several areas of our business. You’ll build the tools and provide the critical analysis to support us getting the right product, to the right place, at the right time. Working in a fast-paced retail business, no day will be the same!

The Skills that will Make You Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years’ experience in an analytical and strategic role, with 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Highly analytical approach to problem solving, leveraging their exceptional Microsoft Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong negotiation skills; manages carrier bid process, both individually and as the business liaison with Global Sourcing and Procurement.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment; product moves quickly through our supply chain network, it is important to react quickly to incoming requests.
  • A self-director who can manage their own timelines and set priorities.
  • Strong Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills; no day is the same in off-price retail, the ability to assess situations quickly and provide alternate solutions is key to success.
  • Ability to influence others without authority and lead the business with vision and strategy.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to build and maintain relationships; you are the face of TJX to many of our external strategic partners.
  • Flexible and adaptable; priorities change frequently based on business demands, the ability to change direction quickly is critical.
  • High aptitude for manipulating and making inferences from data.
  • Ability to develop new tools and processes to support TJX global supply chain goals and objectives.

The Responsibilities You will have in this Role

  • Develops and leads network strategy and optimization for outbound transportation. Key projects and initiatives include, but are not limited to: utilizing dynamic routing, assessing new cost models with our external partners and the usage of dedicated trucks.
  • Manages multiple service center operations, volume projections, and creates seasonal strategy adjustments as needed.
  • Acts as the business liaison in partnership with Global Sourcing and Procurement to manage carrier and service center contracts and bid process.
  • Leads carrier reviews to provide recommendations on additions or discontinuations of service.
  • Oversees Transportation Manager spend at all service center locations and monitors carrier and lane compliance and optimization.
  • Ensures service centers are optimizing runs, and leads the development of runs for new service center locations.
  • Manages and develops team members for future growth within the department and organization.
  • Develops and manages Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the department. Uses KPIs, dashboards, reporting to identify and translate the connections and core issues to operational and financial controls.
  • Interacts and partners with key internal stake holders such as:
    • Distribution Operations on service center expense management, and store operations on seasonal strategies.
    • Inbound and outbound transportation, and other members of global supply chain.
  • Support the field Transportation Managers to ensure we are continually moving store merchandise throughout the network in the most time and cost efficient manner.
  • Interacts with corporate and field Transportation Management to problem solve network opportunities.
  • Continually develop your direct reports and support technical development of field transportation leaders.
