About this job

Will assume the principal responsibility and accountability for total care of assigned clients in the unit. Will be able to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of each client based on scientific principles and is guided by the established policies and procedures of Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Will initiate health care training and education to the clients and/or clients' family as required. Will orient clients and/or clients' family to hospital operations and staff. Will assist physicians and keep them informed. Will participate in orientation of new staff members. Will participate in critical paths and case mix management. May assume Charge Nurse responsibilities when the need arises. Will maintain required competency and technical skill levels as required of the position. Will participate in the establishing of standards of practice and performance improvement methods to monitor achievement. Must be able to work 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be able to rotate the call schedule including weekends and holidays.

Education: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama. BLS and ACLS certification required.

Experience: Willing to accept responsibility and accountability to prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care provided on his/her unit as required. Possess potential ability for leadership. Position requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care appropriate to the patient population assigned, considering client age and diagnosis.

Skills: Verbal ability to present information and ideas related to nursing theory and practice. Ability to function in stressful situations. Willingness to cross train and float between OR, PACU, SDS and Endo units.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, walk at least 5 hours per day, lift/carry 20 pounds, hear alarms and telephone rings, distinguish colors, perform repetitive tasks/motions, have good eye/hand/foot coordination, and have clear vision at 20 or more feet with or without vision corrective device.
