About this job

Under the direction of the Facility Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Director, supervises and coordinates the day to day operations of the laboratory patient services area including phlebotomy, specimen collection, specimen processing and clerical functions.

Essential Functions:

* Supervises and coordinates day to day operations of the laboratory patient services area.

* Manages pre and post analytical laboratory information flow. Resolves specimen collection problems, to include the Pending Test Log. Interfaces with contract reference laboratory to ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate data transmission. Reviews and revises collection procedures.

* Schedules and guides laboratory patient services staff through delegation of tasks, staff assignment and performance review.

* Evaluates ways to improve member/customer satisfaction.

* Acts a laboratory liaison to clinical staff and providers.

* Serves as a supportive member of the lab management team.

* Manages laboratory patient services staff to include hiring, training, scheduling, payroll preparation, evaluation and competency testing, counseling, disciplining and terminating in conformance with union contracts, personnel policies, EEO and Affirmative Action.

* Works in an effective partnership with the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Supervisor.

* Manages information flow to staff regarding policy and procedure changes.

* Participates in internal and external educational programs to develop management skills.

* Performs patient testing as needed to include result/data entry.

* Reviews Patient results/Quality Control records for accuracy.

* Assumes the duties of the Lab Supervisor in their absence.

* Performs other duties as assigned to facilitate laboratory operational flow.

Note: May be require to cover evening and weekend shifts.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* Four (4) years of full-time clinical laboratory experience to include phlebotomy and direct patient care required.

Education

* Associate's degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology or successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) required.

* Proper documentation for applicable degree/military training is required (i.e. copies of diplomas, transcripts, or International Degree Equivalency Report or Military Release forms). Major must be clearly stated on the document. If diploma does not indicate the major, an additional document that states major is required.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

* MLT certification from either the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) required.
