Providence is calling a Lead Registrar to Providence St Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.

We are seeking a Lead Registrar to assist Management in conducting daily operations, providing operational leadership to other staff members in areas specifically identified. The Lead Registrar will be the lead of a team function and/or group of staff at a specified site.

In this position you will:

* Have contact with patients and providers, by telephone or in person, interviewing all with courtesy and demonstrated service excellence to create appointments and schedule procedures for specialized resources.

* Respond to multiple phone calls and requests that often occur simultaneously in a courteous and professional manner.

* Complete registration, verifying demographics and insurance, at the time of scheduling.

* Collaborate with other departments regarding scheduling, resource or staffing conflicts.

* Transcribe orders when applicable and/or link orders to patient appointments.

* Ensure all computer system entries are completed accurately and timely.

* Maintain accurate, clear, concise, and complete account notes and other relevant information.

* Relay work assignments to team members and track completion of tasks.

* Schedule and coordinate team or other resources; oversee operational processes for his/her team or staff at his/her site.

* Serve as a point of escalation for operational issues for his/her team or site.

* Identify, analyze, suggest, and implement improvements to processes.

* Participate in writing, implementing and monitoring operational processes.

* Provide leadership in staff development and team building; provide input for employee performance appraisals.

* Conduct meetings with staff; perform other duties as requested by manager.

Required qualifications for this position include:

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent

* One (1) plus years' experience in customer service or healthcare.

* Maintaining confidentiality of all patients' demographic, medical, and financial information, ensuring proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to HIPAA.

* Compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.

* Knowledge and utilization of electronic and automated work tools (e.g., online access tools to payers, work drivers).

* Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.

* Proven skills in communicating with technical staff, customers and all levels of management.

* Excellent writing and verbal skills.

* Completion of a development plan with primary manager, including related team and leadership development programs.

* Must be able to travel by a variety of modes of efficient transportation to all PHS sites within scope of assignment.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

* College level course work, particularly Medical Terminology or Medical Assistance coursework.

* Previous registrar, scheduler and third party payor experience.

* Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS).

* Knowledge of CPT and ICD coding and medical terminology.

* Basic knowledge of insurance and managed care payors, healthcare registration, Medicare Secondary Payor, EMTALA and ABN.

* Course work in subjects such as team building, facilitating teams, process improvement, conflict resolution, etc.

* Six (6) months experience within Providence.

* Six (6) months prior lead or supervisory experience.

* Mentoring with a senior leader in the division is recommended.
