POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, responsible for the delivery of high quality off-air, satellite, microwave, and digital transport programming up to the outside plant (point of demarcation from ISP facilities) utilizing, maintaining and installing a variety of optical and electrical interfaces including but not limited to coaxial cable, microwave, fiber optic transmission, CAT 6 to name a few typical technologies. This includes root cause analysis of all equipment associated with the Headend (HE), Hubs. On-call rotation required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience * Perform daily checks to ensure HE functionality *Maintain a clean, safe work environment / headend *Maintain awareness of network activities affecting local elements *Troubleshoot video outages *Perform network problem resolution *Troubleshoot communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols *Validates problem descriptions and perform detailed problem diagnosis; take corrective actions to resolve network problems *Develop problem resolution procedures required to meet Network Operations (ISP) standardization and performance requirements *Coordinate testing and required documentation of emergency alert systems *Perform and properly document all required Charter Engineering and FCC mandated POP testing *Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable *Maintain required logs, records and other documentation in compliance with company and FCC (Federal Communications Commission) technical requirements *Perform HE and facility Technical Quality Assurance (TQA) inspections; Ensure all cabling, equipment installation, power and cooling is in compliance with corporate TQA standards *Coordinate daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly testing and logging as outlined by ISP Playbook *Maintain and support protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement *Work on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead *Submit and executes Change Management Requests *Tech can use an MPEG analyzer to assist in troubleshooting video issues in the HE *Install and configure of the latest generation of digital satellite receive equipment including multi decrypt transcoders with MoIP and/or ASI MPTS capabilities *Monitor headend environmentals and coordinate with HVAC vendors to maintain proper system operation *Test and maintain backup power systems - to include generators, uninterruptible power supplies and DC plant *Proficient in the use of all relevant network test equipment including spectrum analyzers, Tberd, TDR, multi-meter/voltage test equipment, VITS generators, Ethernet test equipment *Identify source of HFC network issues utilizing Pathtrak and/or Arcom CPD Hunter (this is to determine ISP or OSP related issue) *Demonstrate critical knowledge of HFC plant and CMTS/node combining design as well as working knowledge of DOCSIS protocol *Identify and install various optics related to switch and routing equipment including SFP, SFP+ and XFP *Utilize tools such as Drum, Remedy, Engineering DB, INCUR *Coordinate the installation and provide support for advanced video equipment (e.g. VOD, multiplexing, digital transport, edge QAM) *Know, understand and follow company policies *Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must demonstrate the ability to adapt and change to ensure the successes of the business *Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner *Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner *Ability to use personal computer and software applications, handheld communication devices and applications, to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires, to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting, to work with small components and wires to make cable connections, to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as ladders) within the maximum limitations of that equipment), to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices, to read general system layouts from blue prints and system maps, to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position, to prioritize and organize effectively, to work independently, to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics, Hybrid Fiber Coax and DOCSIS/CMTS, Transport Technologies CWDM, DWDM, SONET, T1, Ethernet and wireless technologies, critical systems elements including but not limited to HVAC, Powering and Generators. *Proficient in the use of a computer to compile databases, create documents and interact with various GUI based interfaces *In-depth proficiency in design, installation and maintenance of critical systems *Advance knowledge DC Plant, video networking (SDV, VOD), IP and DOCSIS *Proficient knowledge of network test equipment
Expert knowledge of optical test equipment (such as OTDR, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, Fiber Light Identifier, Optical Fiber Scope and Optical Power Meter)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced knowledge in local and wide area networking communications, support systems for network management and element management systems *Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including ladders and fully loaded tool belts *Ability to perform job from high places (roofs) *Knowledge of company products and services, National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code, Microwave CARS band and IP transport radios and their performance and IPv6 *Moderate understanding of advanced video networking, IP networking and DOCSIS

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Technology or Sciences or equivalent work experience preferred

RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

6+ years of HE Technician, Network implementation or electronics work experience

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES:

Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards *Required: Valid Certifications from the Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers (SCTE) BTS, BDS, BTCS *Preferred: HVAC (Liebert, Trane, etc), UPS / Inverter Vendor Certifications (Liebert, Alpha, etc), Transport Vendor Certifications and Training (Aurora, Cisco, ARRIS, etc)

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work in a 24x7, fast paced environment *Exposure to continuous moderate noise *Work indoors in confined space, poorly ventilated areas such as attics, basements and/or crawlspaces *Exposure to dust, dirt, insects, rodents, pets, and cleaning solutions *Work and travel in inclement weather; Work all hours’ day or night; Work performed near power facilities and electricity
