The Manager in Training position is an entry level management position designed to train a candidate to be a successful Sales or Operations Manager. The Manager in Training position will assist the Sales and Operations Managers in the operation of all aspects of the store while learning the unique functions of each position. A successful Manager in Training will be a positive role model for all store associates, will actively participate in learning to execute the major responsibilities of a Sales Manager and Operations Manager, will be capable of assuming a higher role in 6-18 months, will be willing to transfer to another store within 30 miles of current store, and will exemplify the company’s goals and vision.  This is a part time position to start with evening and weekends required.  Prior retail experience is preferred but not required.

 

Major Responsibilities

The major responsibilities for this position include learning to execute the responsibilities of the Sales Manager and Operations Manager positions. The Manager in Training position will also be a part of the management team that reports to the Store Leader and will assist in operating the store on a day to day basis:

Sales Manager Major Responsibilities:

  • Training Coordinator:
    •  Responsible for implementing all Training Programs as directed
  • Promotional Merchandising:
    • Executing Monthly End Cap Program and Dump Bin Program
    • Monitor and maintain the Clip Strip Program
    • Maximizing opportunities in the Power Aisle, and POS Impulse areas
  • Marketing:
    • Ensuring that the store is appropriately merchandised for all marketing events.
    • Ensuring that all corresponding signage is in place for the duration of the event, as well as comes down at the appropriate time.
    • Reviewing all Marketing events and materials not only with the management team, but the store associates as well
    • Coordinate community involvement by developing and executing a minimum of 4 community events at the store each year
  • Directly monitor the Ace Rewards Program ensuring that the store achieves a year to date average of a minimum of 60% usage
  • Drive the B2B Program for continual improvement achieving a minimum of a 15% increase as compared to prior year or achieve a level of 25% of the store’s total sales
  • This position will be the primary contact in store for any communication regarding Accounts Receivable and Marketing

Operations Manager Major Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Integrity:
    • Ensuring completion of all required inventory Cycle Counts Programs including but not limited to:
      • Mango
      • Monthly Supplemental Counts
      • Weekly Outs Scans
      • Monthly Bagged Goods Audit (May-September)
    • Ensure execution of the Monthly Clearance Program
    • Ensure that all drop ship / outside vendor orders are processed utilizing existing company guidelines
  • Manage Overstock
    • Maintain the down stocking program to limit overstock
    • Maintain cleanliness / neatness of all warehouse areas
  • Ensure weekly price changes are implemented in a timely manner
  • Ensure proper implementation for all resets both before and after the set/s are complete
  • Ensure all daily and weekly reporting needs are met (RPE, Returns Verification, Daily Reconciliation, Safe Audits, Petty Cash Reconciliation, etc.)
  • Responsible for training all associates on store policies and procedures  
  • Safety Program Leader - ensures that all required inspections and paperwork are completed and submitted on time

Minimum Requirements:

The minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Education/Training:  High School degree, some college preferred.  Possess a vast knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn
  • Experience:  Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience
  • Skills/Knowledge:  Strong leadership and analytical skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead and develop others
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and task with a high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business

Physical Requirements

The minimum physical requirements for this position include:

  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting and perform all functions as set forth
  • Assist customers with heavier items – Must be able to lift and carry up to 60lbs as a part of regular duties. Must be able occasionally, with assistance, lift up to 80lbs. Rommel’s Ace does provide dollies, pallet jacks, merchandise carts and forklifts to be used as necessary in the completion of these duties
  • Job responsibilities may change based on the needs of the business.

  • Must be willing to be transferred to another store within 30 miles.
