We are Move Networks, a division of Dish Technologies, and makers of Sling TV, an OTT (over-the-top) TV service that delivers live U.S. and international programming, as well as video on demand, over the Internet.

 

We are seeking a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our American Fork, Utah - based team. This is an exciting position in a fast moving project that requires the ability of candidates to hit the ground running. A successful PostgreSQL DBA will possess:

 

Basic Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 or more years experience in PostgreSQL or MySQL relational database administration.
  • 2 or more years experience with either Couchbase, ElasticSearch, or other comparable NoSQL databases.
  • 2 or more years experience operating database technologies in a Linux environment.

 
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced SQL development and performance tuning.
  • Data modeling experience.
  • Deep working knowledge of and proven experience with database clustering.
  • Experience with MySQL Proxy, PGPool, PGBouncer, or comparable relational database proxies.
  • Experience with ELK or Splunk.
  • Strong understanding of both structured and unstructured data.
  • Experience with Salt Stack or comparable deployment automation tools.
  • Experience with Zenoss, NewRelic, PagerDuty or other monitoring technologies.
  • Understanding of and experience with shell scripting for process automation.

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:  

  • Participate in the development of strategic goals for production databases.
  • Employ best practices to ensure high availability.
  • Design and implement horizontally scalable solutions.
  • Install, configure, and maintain database instances.
  • Maintain database documentation and troubleshooting playbooks.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Assist with database-related application deployments.
  • Ability to work non-peak hours when needed.
  • Proactively monitor database performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize database connection, statements, and strategies.
  • Review and approve database modifications submitted by engineering teams.
  • Maintain change control and testing processes for all database modifications.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards.
