Description:
JOB SUMMARY\:
  • Has experience in initiating and monitoring intravenous therapy (IV).
  • Incorporates knowledge of the nursing process and the professional standards of nursing in daily practice.
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development on initiating therapy.
  • Applies knowledge of various IV access devices to determine appropriate access device for patient.
  • Serves as resource on IV issues.
Qualification:Education\:    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
 
Experience\:   Two years nursing experience
                     One year experience in starting IV’s preferred
 
Licensure or Certification\:
  • Active RN license in Tennessee
  • BCLS required within first six months
  • Certified RN Intravenous Therapy preferred
 
Equipment/Skills\:     
  • Use of general patient care equipment and communication equipment.
  • Use of unit-specific equipment (computers, copiers, etc.). 
  • Good telephone and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in health care technology. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology specific to vascular system.
