POSITION SUMMARY:HIM Coders are responsible for coding medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines. The primary functions of this position are to analyze physician documentation and consult with physicians in assigning appropriate clinical diagnose and procedure codes for our growing Orthopedic physician surgical office. Codes are assigned to each diagnosis and procedure documented in the medical record by the physician. This individual will also be responsible for denials as well as the billing of these cases.POSITION EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:* Assures final diagnoses and procedures documented by the physician are valid and complete.* Reconciles multiple surgical schedules to ensure complete charge capture.* Charge entry of multiple surgical cases into the billing system in a timely manner.* Analyzes provider documentation to assure the appropriate Evaluation and Management (E&M) levels are assigned using the correct CPT codes.* Work in conjunction with the A/R team to follow up and resolve coding related denials and rejections.* Responsible for maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines and relevant federal regulations.* Expected to be familiar with third party fee profiles and reimbursement practices/strategies.* Provide assistance in the education of medical staff, ancillary Departments, and administration regarding the appropriate methods of documentation and coding relative to quality, billing and Reimbursement and coding guideline requirements.* Commit to and remain in compliance with Corporate Compliance Plan objectives and directives. Communicate irregularities of Documentation and/or coding to the appropriate parties for trending, analysis and/or correction or resolution.* Act as a liaison to other departments involved in the coding, billing, Registration and utilization review process, facilitating necessary Process changes as dictated by hospital operational policy.* Expected to be proactive in providing hospitality to all BocaCare's patients, families, visitors, employees and physicians.* Expected to serve as an ambassador for BocaCare and an active contributor in all customer service initiatives.* Protects and maintains the confidentiality of patient information. Handles patient information with discretion and integrity.Minimum Education and/or Experience:* 2 3 years of coding experience, preferable with emphasis in the general surgery specialty* High School Diploma or equivalent* Knowledge of Greenway billing & coding system preferred* Knowledge of Medical Terminology* Knowledge of CPT-4, HCPCS II, and ICD-10 CM* Strong knowledge & understanding of surgical practice coding and regulatory compliance.Licensure/Regulation/Certification:* Certified Physician Coder (CPC) certification preferred* Selected Candidate Will be Employed by BocaCare, Inc Physician Network, an affiliate of Boca Raton Regional Hospital* Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites.* The person in this position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions.* In the spirit of wellness for both our employees and patients, Boca Raton Regional Hospital has instituted a mandatory influenza prevention vaccination program.
