The Grocery Manager is responsible for managing department inventory, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor, and other operational processes to company standards. The Grocery Manager will plan, order, and work with the Assistant Grocery Manager and Grocery Clerks according to the production tools and standards to maximize sales and gross profit. The Grocery Manager will ensure all new Grocery associates receive proper training and tools to succeed. Additionally, the Grocery Manager will ensure correct ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, and rotation of merchandise and displays. The Grocery Manager will also ensure a high level of customer engagement and satisfaction at all times by answering customer questions regarding services and products offered, and will act as a team leader and key holder for the store. Position Description Core Accountabilities: Directs, manages, and assists all functions and activities of the Grocery Department; will act as a team leader for the department and the store, and will also have the responsibility of a key holder. Helps to manage labour costs through effective scheduling and reduce losses due to shrink, damage and pilferage. Handling a variety of the department's grocery items, such as dry shelf, frozen, dairy, beer/wine, and specialty drinks throughout the day; answering specific customer requests while maintaining quality product levels all while ensuring outstanding customer service; sampling product as needed. Demonstrate the ability to be organized, to work independently and with the team to provide the highest quality shopping experience; ensuring shelves and cases are well stocked and displays well-merchandised while keeping up to date with proper signage in the department; ensure the highest quality products and supplies are available to complete tasks efficiently; follow approved procedures for stocking, merchandising and rotating all while maintaining the overall appearance of the department. Maintaining expectations for quality and in stock conditions on a daily basis. Unloading and breaking down deliveries as needed; Maintaining proper product assortment and product quality on the sales floor and following rotation standards when replenishing stock levels. Follow and utilize the planograms, layouts, and schematics of the department as well as duties and assignments as directed by management. Quality and safety duties include inspecting and storing products to ensure quality, following proper cleaning and sanitation procedures, operating equipment in a safe and focused manner while tracking date and rotation of product. Follow all company guidelines and procedures, to include but not limited to, safety and sanitation and preparation while providing overall exceptional service to ensure a positive and lasting customer impression. Must keep sales floor cleaned and organized to company standards as well as washing coolers and storage racks to company standards. Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations. Observe all store rules and Company policies, shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned by Store Manager. Must wear approved apron and non-slip shoes. Maintains knowledge of weekly ad items; gives customers direction of product location throughout the store. Maintains excellent communication within the Grocery department and store management at all times. Directly participates in on-the-job training efforts in the department. Works together with the Store Manager or Managing Partner to conduct performance reviews. Key Outputs/Results: Addressing and greeting customers; answering questions in a friendly manner, proactively offering assistance and providing accurate and timely information, making product recommendations and accommodating special requests and sampling as needed. Responsible for the financial and overall success of the department. Ensuring the retention of employees and minimizing labour costs. Demonstrating the necessary leadership skills. Ability to listen to others' points of view and recognizing and appreciating differences. Properly handle, prepare, transport and store products; ensuring practices are strictly adhered to TFM standards. Prioritizing requests and department activities while managing interruptions and attending to details to complete tasks within specified deadlines. Utilize training resources and fellow team members to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics. Have knowledge of products used throughout the store and works across departments to provide and assist customers in finding complete meal solutions. Minimum Qualifications: Oral and written communication skills that allow for productive communication with co-workers, management and customers. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have at least 5 years of management experience either in the retail, restaurant, or hospitality field. Grocery Management experience is preferred.
