On behalf of American Institutes for Research, Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking individuals to serve as instructional coaches in math and English language arts (ELA) in a study of the Feedback on Alignment and Support for Teachers (FAST) program.  The study will examine the impact of the program on teachers’ instruction and their students’ achievement. This is a remote position offering between 35-45 hours per month for 7 months.

The FAST program supports teachers in aligning their instruction to their state’s college- and career-readiness (CCR) standards. The program gives teachers tools to reflect on the extent to which their instruction addresses the topics and level of depth emphasized in CCR standards. You will coach these teachers virtually, using video technology. The study will occur during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years. Math coaches will partner with fourth-grade teachers and ELA coaches with fifth-grade teachers.

You may live anywhere it the US, as all work will be conducted remotely. You will work with approximately nine fourth-grade math or nine fifth-grade ELA teachers. Coaching activities during each of the study school years will require approximately 35-45 hours a month for seven months. These hours include time to plan for and participate in individual mentoring sessions and grade-level team meetings with teachers, as well as time for feedback and support from the FAST team.

Our coaches will have:

  • At least three years of strong experience teaching math or English language arts (elementary level preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of math or English language arts standards for student learning, instruction to promote student mastery of those standards, and policies surrounding those standards
  • Experience working with teachers in a professional development or coaching setting
  • Flexibility to participate in coaching sessions that match participating teachers’ schedules
  • Comfort and ability to learn how to work with video-conferencing and web-based technologies, with an in home internet connection to be used for business purposes.

Training, Hours, and Pay:

  • We require a five-day, in-person FASTCoach training which will be held at AIR in Washington, DC in mid-August 2017.
  • $31 / hour pay rate
