Responsibilities and Qualifications

1. Assess condition of patient and or situations.

1.1 Assessment of patients condition documented appropriately on initiation of patient care.1.2 Data relevant to the patients care is recorded on appropriate document before care of patient is released.

2. Plan and organize professional services: (evaluated by chart review, patient care conferences, and observation).

2.1 Nursing care plan is based on patients current problems and is congruent with medical plan of care or surgical and procedural intervention.2.2 Plan of care includes identified problems and nursing interventions.2.3 Plan of care includes measurable goals as developed with the patient and family.2.4 A teaching plan is evidenced in the plan of care.2.5 Plan of care is updated as patient condition and needs change and as patient moves through the surgical or procedural environment.2.6 Work is prioritized according to patient needs and unit activities.

3. Implement and/or perform professional services according to policy and procedure (evaluated by chart review, QA reviews, observation, care plan review and patient assignments).

3.1 There is documentation that the care given is in accordance with the written plan of care and it complies with patient care standards as written in the particular area.3.2 Nurses notes reflect use of the nursing process.3.3 The patients physical needs are being met.3.4 The patients psycho-social needs are being promoted.3.5 The patient is being kept as physically comfortable as his condition and surgical and procedural permits.3.6 The patient is in a safe environment.3.7 Provides opportunities for formal and informal teaching to patients and families. Documents teaching activities in the medical record.

4. Evaluate effectiveness of services provided.

4.1 Patient response to therapy is documented.4.2 Patient response to teaching is documented.4.3 There is a written current discharge plan where appropriate.

5. Demonstrate effective and accurate verbal and written communication.

5.1 Significant information is reported verbally to appropriate persons.5.2 Pertinent information is concisely an legibly written in.5.3 Listens in a participatory manner by looking directly at the person speaking, observing body language, facial expression and indicating by words and understanding of the senders message.5.4 Sends effective messages by speaking for self, not others.5.5 Directs message to appropriate person using a well modulated voice and acceptable language.

6. Participates in organizational activities by demonstrating completion of the following:

6.1 Participation in at least 80% of staff meetings.6.2 Presentation of at least one inservice/year.6.3 Conduction of team conferences quarterly and minutes submitted to Head nurse of content, problems and progress.6.4 Participation in at least one hospital committee or special project.6.5 Current national certification in an approved medically related program.6.6 Participation in at least one department committee or special project.

7. Demonstrates effective unit management.

7.1 Evaluate the assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing care by staff members.7.2 Staff assignments depict patient acuity and appropriate skill level of nurse or tech.7.3 Proposes solutions to identified problems utilizing appropriate resources.7.4 Reports appropriate information to oncoming staff or relief personnel.7.5 Looks ahead at surgery and procedure schedules at least once a day to evaluate future staffing and equipment needs in particular area of responsibility. Reports needs to Materials Coordinator and follows-up on procurement.7.6 Assures readiness and appropriateness of procedures or care of areas of responsibility by making frequent rounds and/or checking with staff personnel providing the direct care.7.7 Participates in recruiting, interviewing and retaining staff to maintain appropriate skill mix.7.8 Evaluates the work performance of staff members involved in provision of care in area of responsibility. Communicates with and cooperatively evaluates performance of staff members where participation by staff is in more than one area.7.9 Reviews schedules and assignments for appropriate staff coverage and skill mix, makes changes with Schedule Coordinator or Head Nurse.7.10 Demonstrates support for administrative decisions in written and verbal communications.7.11 Serves as a resource for areas providing like or similar services in the surgical services departments.

8. Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

8.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.8.2 Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho/social, cultural, safety and other age-related factors.8.3 Demonstrates ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs.

Minimum Qualifications: Education: Nursing degree from an accredited school Licensure: Current RN license in the state of Oklahoma Experience: Minimum 2 years of PACU experience

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing

Preferred Experience: Pre-op and Post-op experience
