Job Description General Summary Provide overall management and supervision of the Front End Department. Lead, mentor, and develop the team to achieve and surpass all department goals. Responsible for Team Member hiring, development, and outplacement from team. Also responsible for cash accuracy, expense control, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned. Complete accountability for all aspects of department operations. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: TEAM MEMBER DEVELOPMENT 1. Consistently communicate and model Whole Foods Market vision and goals. 2. Interview, select, train, develop, and counsel Team Members in a manner which builds and sustains a high performing team, and minimizes turnover. Make hiring and termination decisions with guidance of Store Team Leader. 3. Ensure that all Team Members are following the Excel training program. Includes monitoring progress, and processing all required paperwork. 4. Ensure that all Team Members are following Regional and National cash control standards. 5. Establish and maintain a positive work environment, which sustains an exceptionally high level of Team Member morale. 6. Select and develop supervisors as potential Team Leaders. 7. Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful Job Dialogues. 8. Communicate and maintain employee safety and security standards. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT 1. Project weekly sales and annual expenses, and prepare annual operating budget. 2. Achieve budgeted expense levels. 3. Maintain exceptional level of customer service. 4. Maintain awareness of new products. 5. Establish and maintain positive and productive vendor relationships. MERCHANDISING/MARKETING MANAGEMENT 1. Continually increase the product knowledge level of you and your team using all available resources. 2. Sustain exceptional level of knowledge/awareness of relevant competitors and industry trends. 3. Maintain overall department cleanliness. COMMUNICATION 1. Establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationship with Store Team Leader, Front End Coordinator, Team Leaders, and all Team Members. 2. Model and cultivate effective inter-department and inter-store communication, including conducting effective department meetings. MANAGEMENT REPORTING 1. Provide accurate, complete information in daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and "ad hoc" management reports. 2. Thorough and complete documentation in support of Team Member discipline and counseling activities. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE Maintain comprehensive knowledge of, and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory rules and standards, including: q OSHA q Department of Labor q FDA q Department of Agriculture q Weights and Measures q Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Knowledge, skills and abilities required: 1. Minimum one year relevant experience as a Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader, Supervisor or Specialist. 2. Thorough knowledge of relevant technologies and cash room procedures. 3. Thorough knowledge of products and store sub-team structure. 4. Excellent verbal and written communication. 5. Strong organizational skills. 6. Knowledge of all relevant Whole Foods Market policies, standards, procedures, core values, business philosophy, and quality goals. 7. Able to work 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends as required. Working conditions: 1. Standing and walking for extended periods of time, up to 8-10 hours. 2. Bending, stooping, climbing. 3. Mental and physical dexterity. 4. Unassisted heavy lifting. 5. Work in varying temperatures. 6. Use of box cutters. 7. Use of electric pallet jacks or other heavy machinery. 8. Mandatory use of required personal protective equipment. 9. Use of ladders. 10. Iteration of duties. Additional Responsibilities: 1. Maintain a safe and sanitary department. Correct and report all life safety and fire hazards to Store Leadership. Comply with all occupational safety and health regulations.
